Expanded Duties:
Leadership: Motivate and inspire team members through positive reinforcement and timely feedback on expectations for safety, quality, productivity, and goal achievement.
Safety: Ensure inspections are performed confirming that crews are adhering to company safety policies and best practices. Follow all Provincial Safety Guidelines in accordance with LCE Policies and OHSA.
Pre-Job and Post-Job Planning: Actively participate in pre-job planning and strategy sessions with Estimator and/or Project managers to determine the unique characteristics of the schedule and the project budget. Actively participate in post-job review meetings as requested to develop and utilize lessons learned. Support Team Leads and subcontractors to succeed on every project.
Scheduling: Schedule labour, equipment, and tools to accomplish the job in a safe manner using tools and equipment efficiently. With the project manager, create realistic schedules consistent with the concept of "”desk-build”
Project Coordination: Review schedule, assist in developing schedule milestones and measure incremental progress against schedules. Assess applicability of shop drawings with project managers. Assist in managing job meetings with all relevant parties on a weekly basis.
Productivity: Drive project schedules through the effective and proactive use of field best practices, including but not limited to pre-job planning, short interval planning, daily tail gate talks. Continually review project progress, budgets, schedules, and requirements for completion. Recommend changes in methods, schedules and/or procedures to ensure budgets are met. Develop innovative solutions to job site problems. Set clear production targets and goals. Review often to determine why/why not being met.
Documentation: Ensure timely and accurate information reporting from the project to the office. Daily reports due by 10 a.m. next day.
Subcontractors: Initiate pre-work meetings with subcontractors to familiarize them with schedules, construction methods, company procedures, policies, and quality standards. Set clear production goals.
Quality: Construct a safe and reliable project that meets or exceeds the clients' expectations the first time, every time. When results are not as expected, takes responsibility and be accountable by improving results.
Proactive Communication: Take the initiative to communicate with people in the company and keep them informed about issues, problems and successes occurring on the job.
Equipment and Vehicle Maintenance: Take care of equipment and vehicles assigned to your projects including job trailer. Assure that equipment and vehicles receive the proper maintenance. Do not allow assets of the company to be misused or abused.
Client Relations and Communications: Maintain positive, continuous communication with clients. Show integrity and dependability. Be committed to meeting the clients' expectations and enhancing the project experience.
Required Experience:
- Experience supervising/leading a crew of 5 or more people in a Foreman role
- At least 5 years of Experience in civil construction as a pipelayer
- Experience with layouts and surveying
- Experience with efficient installation of a variety of pipes related to civic construction including storm, water, and sanitary, both main and service pipe.
- Experience with lay out pipe, following specifications or blueprints, and coordinating layout with all facets of project
- Ability to motivate and work as a team to complete projects in a safe and timely manner
- Knowledge of safe hoisting and rigging procedures
- Possess working knowledge of the latest building codes, standards, methods, and industry safety standards
- Current, valid tickets/certifications for: WHMIS, First Aid level 1 or 2, Confined Space, Ground Disturbance, and Construction Safety Training
- Physically fit and able to lift large weights and climb in and out of trenches, manholes, etc. (40 lbs +)
- Valid Driver’s License and clean Driver’s Abstract
- Aptitude to problem solve and think “outside the box” to come up with creative solutions
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to function well in a fast paced changing environment
- Excellent command of the English language both written and verbal
- Highly organized and motivated to carry out a variety of duties (cleanup, assist civil crew, etc.)
- Experience recording daily activities, production and all site movements on daily tracking forms.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands
Must demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude toward machinery in general.
Must be willing to work any and/or all shifts as required within reason and notice.
Ability to interact with the public in a polite manner.
Good understanding of computer software is required.
Ability to operate various hand and power tools safety.
Ability to operate equipment and machinery in a safe and efficient manner.
Ability to work in a team environment and use effective communication skills both verbal and written.
Work with limited supervision.
Ability to work outside in inclement weather conditions and perform all duties in a safe and efficient manner.
Thorough knowledge and the ability to operate equipment and machinery in a safe and efficient manner.
Able to perform the essential duties of the job including heavy lifting and standing on your feet for long periods of time.
Proper use of PPE.
