Kealey Tackaberry Log Homes is our Log and Timberframe home division that is known for its beautiful, classic homes built from all natural and sustainable logs and timber derived from deadwood forests and end of life mature trees 150+ years old. House plans and designs range from small cottages and bunkies to large 3000+ sq. ft homes, that are customized to home owner preferences.
ABOUT THE JOB
We are looking to hire an experienced carpenter or framer to construct the framework of buildings and other structures according to construction plans. The framing carpenter's responsibilities include using levels to ensure that structures are exactly vertical or horizontal, constructing window and door frames, and experienced in plain and finish carpentry including exterior elements like siding, soffit, facia and interior trim work with high quality and attention to detail.
To be successful as a framing carpenter, you should be able to interpret blueprints and have sound knowledge of building codes and safety regulations. Ultimately, an exceptional framing carpenter should demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills and ensure that all tasks are completed in a timely manner.
If you are passionate about wood working and carpentry, then this job provides lots of opportunities to do creative things in addition to framing houses, but working with logs and other natural materials.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
- Accurately measuring, cutting, and shaping lumber, wood, and other building materials.
- Attaching building materials using screw and nail patterns.
- Erecting temporary structures such as scaffolding.
- Analyzing blueprints and drawings to determine the structural dimensions of the framework to be constructed.
- Examining building materials to identify any defects.
- Performing cleanups of job sites by clearing away all carpentry debris and waste
- Working with natural material logs and log features in various houses
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Hard-worker, good attitude, and team player
- Requirement to work effectively in a team environment
- Passionate about wood working and takes pride in what they do
- Sound knowledge of building codes and safety regulations.
- Physical strength and stamina, and not afraid of hard work
- The ability to interpret blueprints.
- The ability to safely use hand and power tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational skills
- Effective communication skills.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum requirement is 2 years’ carpentry experience, but 5+ years is an asset
- Working at heights certification requirement (1 day course)
- Training or Experience related to Carpentry or Home Construction
- Knowledge of acceptable construction site practices
- Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations.
- College diploma in carpentry, advanced framing or building is an asset
- Passive House and/or Log Home construction experience is not required, but is an asset
