The Public Service Occupational Health Program (PSOHP) is the occupational health service provider responsible for the provision of occupational health services for federal government departments and employees including Occupational Health Evaluation Services, Immunization and Screening of Communicable Disease, Occupational Health and Hygiene Guidance, and Superannuation Services.

Duties of an Occupational Health Nurse
The duties of an Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) include:
- Conduct occupational health evaluations for federal candidates and employees in positions with inherent health and safety risks, including those working in high-risk, safety-sensitive positions or at domestic or overseas posts.
- Review medical history and current health status; and perform focused physical examinations, as required; to determine whether occupational health requirements have been met.
- Administer occupational health screening tests, including vision and hearing assessments.
- Provide recommended immunizations and tuberculin skin testing based on job requirements and work locations.
- Prepare and submit occupational health evaluation reports to employers and candidates/employees, outlining whether occupational health requirements have been met and identifying any functional limitations or restrictions.
- Provide superannuation health evaluation services.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary clinical team composed of Occupational Health Medical Officers, Occupational Health Nurse Practitioners, and Occupational Health Nurses across Canada.
- Deliver occupational health services at PSOHP service centres, field offices, and federal government work locations.
- Travel routinely, including same-day and overnight travel, to provide occupational health services at federal government work locations.
- Ensure occupational health services are delivered in accordance with professional standards, policies, and occupational health guidelines.
- Participate in working groups and committees; and assist in development of clinical policies and procedures. Participate in training, continuing education and professional development activities.

Intent of the process
The process aims to create an inventory of partially or fully qualified candidates who may be considered for current and future full-time positions within Health Canada's Public Service Occupational Health Program. Applications will be accepted on a regular basis and will be evaluated regularly to fill immediate needs as long as the poster is active.

You must provide

Education
- Graduation with a degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in Nursing, Nursing Administration, Nursing Education or other specialty relevant to the position OR a Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing from a recognized post-secondary institution**.
*The term degree refers to a baccalaureate as established by educational authorities.
**For positions in the Québec Region, the term “post-secondary institution” is defined as university level which does not include CEGEP.
Occupational Certification
- Possession of a Registered Nurse license in good standing from the provincial regulatory body in a Canadian province. (In order to be appointed, candidates must be registered in the province where the position is being staffed.)
Experience
At least one (1) year of recent* experience as a registered nurse in the direct provision of nursing clinical services. *Recent is defined as within the last five (5) years.

The following requirements may be needed for the job and may be applied / assessed at a later date (asset qualifications):
Asset Education / Certification
- Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing
- Certification in Occupational Health Nursing from the Canadian Nurses’ Association
- Certification in Travel Health from the International Society of Travel Medicine
- Current certificate in occupational audiometry
Asset Experience
- Experience as a registered nurse in the direct provision of health assessments, including physical examinations and comprehensive health history.
- Experience in interpreting occupational health examinations, laboratory tests and screening tests (e.g., audiograms, vision tests, spirometry).
- Experience as a registered nurse in the direct provision of occupational health services, including identification of functional limitations or restrictions.
- Experience as a registered nurse in the direct provision of one (1) or more clinical services and screening tests, including immunizations, Tuberculin Skin Tests (TSTs), audiometry, and vision tests.
- Experience as a registered nurse in the direct provision of travel health services.
Conditions of employment
Candidates must meet and maintain the following conditions of employment throughout their employment:
- Reliability Status Security Clearance
- Possession of a valid driver's license, as operationally required
- Current registration in good standing as a registered nurse in the province where the position is located.
- Willingness to obtain and maintain additional license(s) as a registered nurse in other provinces or territories, as operationally required.
- Willingness and ability to work full time (4 to 5 days/week) at a PSOHP work location, i.e., at a PSOHP service centre, PSOHP field office, and/or client department worksite, as operationally required.
- Willingness and ability to routinely travel (same day, overnight, and for multiple days) to a variety of work sites to deliver services.
- Willingness and ability to travel to deliver services using varied forms of transportation, e.g., planes, trains, cars, public transportation, ferries.
- Willingness and ability to work the program’s core operational hours of 8 am to 4 pm.
- Willingness and ability to adjust work hours or work overtime on weekdays or evenings, based on operational needs.
- Willingness and ability to manually lift and carry equipment safely to a maximum of 20 kg when travelling from the office location to deliver services.
- Willingness and ability to complete mandatory education and training relevant to the position.

2. SCREENING: Screening is the initial review of your application. You MUST meet the essential education, occupational certification and experience criteria in order to be considered for the next phase of the evaluation process. Depending on the number of applications received, operational needs and HR plans, asset criteria and/or volume management strategies may be applied.
3. ASSESSMENT: If you meet the essential education, occupational certification and experience criteria assessed during the screening stage, you will be invited via email to move forward to the next stage of the assessment process. Various methods of assessment may be administered (written exam, interview, references, etc.).
Assessments will only be rescheduled under these exceptional circumstances (proof may be required):

Please note that in addition to all assessment methods such as the application, exam, interview, and references, your correspondence and communication in relation to this selection process may also be used to assess specific qualifications.
To ensure the integrity of the selection process, the content and questions of the assessment must remain confidential. 4. DOCUMENT GATHERING: In this step, you will be asked to submit the required documentation to support your application.

QUALIFIED POOL: Candidates who meet the essential merit criteria will be placed in a partially qualified or fully qualified pool and notified of same.
