Watson’s Pharmacy & Compounding Centre (Watson’s) is an award-winning, local, family-owned pharmacy, proudly serving the Ottawa region for the past 19 years. With two locations in central Ottawa (Old Ottawa East and Wellington West), Watson’s has built a strong reputation for offering responsive customer service, sound health advice, and innovative products. At both locations, Watson’s has dedicated counselling and consultation space in its charming, light-filled pharmacies located on vibrant main streets. A hallmark of Watson’s health offerings are the professional compounding labs located within each pharmacy. Within these labs, Pharmacists and Pharmacy Assistants prepare customized medicines, often from original chemical formulations, based on the specific needs of hospitals, health professionals, veterinarians, and patients.
Watson’s is currently searching for a Pharmacist to join its team of professionals. Candidates interested in both full-time and part-time positions will be considered, although full-time is preferred. As a Pharmacist, you will:
- Accurately and safely dispense and review prescription medications using the Kroll system
- Counsel patients on medications, including, but not limited to, advising the patient on administration, dosage, side effects and other drug interactions
- Counsel and/or provide treatment to patients with respect to certain conditions and minor aliments as permitted by regulatory bodies in Ontario, including but not limited to: performing point-of-care tests, and renewing, adapting, or issuing prescriptions
- Participate in medication management, including, but not limited to, reviewing prescriptions, managing inventory, and ensuring the quality and safety of medications
- Administer vaccines as permitted by regulatory bodies in Ontario
- Work collaboratively with other pharmacists and health providers to optimize patient care
- Work collaboratively with other Watson’s team members to ensure dispensary operations are efficient and safe, providing supervision to dispensary staff as required
- Maintain a clean and orderly dispensary that meets the standards, policies, and regulations as set by Watson’s Pharmacy, the Ontario College of Pharmacists, and the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA)
- Oversee, as required, the preparation of non-sterile compounded medications (e.g. creams, ointments, suspensions, solutions, and capsules)
- Assist in ordering, accepting, and inputting laboratory and dispensary stock as required
- Assist in other aspects of pharmacy operations as required
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and attributes:
- Active licence with the Ontario College of Pharmacists
- Previous experience in a community pharmacy setting (preferred but not required)
- Familiarity with a lab environment or experience working in a lab (preferred but not required)
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve technical challenges
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
- A keen attention to detail
- Familiarity with Kroll pharmacy software
The hourly pay for this position will be $52-56 depending on the skill level and experience of the candidate. As a full-time employee, you will be eligible to participate in Watson’s health benefits plan. Watson’s hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 9am-6pm and Saturday 9am-5pm (closed on Sundays).
