Position Summary
The Senior Human Resources Generalist plays a key role in supporting national HR operations from our Head Office. This position is both strategic and hands on, responsible for developing and maintaining HR policies, ensuring compliance across all Canadian provinces and territories, and supporting leaders across our retail and corporate operations.
Although based at Head Office, this role requires a strong understanding of retail operations and the unique needs of employees at all levels, from frontline associates to store managers, retail managers, and corporate teams. The Senior HR Generalist also provides mentorship and guidance to the Junior HR team member, supporting their development and ensuring consistent HR practices across the organization.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced, multi site environment and can balance strategic thinking with day‑to‑day HR execution.
Key Responsibilities
Policy Development & Governance
- Develop, review, and modernize HR policies, procedures, and employee handbooks.
- Maintain a national policy framework that aligns with legislation across all provinces and territories.
- Monitor legislative changes and emerging HR trends; communicate updates to leadership and employees.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all federal and provincial employment laws, including:
- Employment Standards Acts
- Human Rights Codes
- Occupational Health & Safety legislation
- Pay equity and accessibility requirements
- Privacy legislation (PIPEDA and provincial equivalents)
- WorkSafeBC, WCB Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario requirements
- Conduct compliance audits and risk assessments; develop action plans to address gaps.
- Advise leadership on complex compliance matters, investigations, and regulatory issues.
Employee Relations & Investigations
- Lead complex employee relations cases with fairness, consistency, and legal compliance.
- Conduct or support investigations involving harassment, discrimination, misconduct, or policy violations.
- Coach managers on performance management, accommodations, and conflict resolution.
Training & Organizational Support
- Develop and deliver training on HR policies, compliance, and best practices for leaders across Canada.
- Support change management initiatives related to policy updates, restructuring, or new compliance requirements.
Leadership, Mentorship & Collaboration
- Mentor and support the Junior HR team member, providing guidance on retail HR processes and best practices.
- Collaborate with store operations, retail managers, and corporate leaders to ensure consistent HR support.
- Represent HR in audits, legal consultations, and regulatory interactions.
Recruitment & Onboarding (Head Office Focus)
- Manage full‑cycle recruitment for Head Office roles, including postings, screening, interviews, and offers.
- Provide guidance to the Junior HR team member on retail recruitment processes.
- Conduct pre‑screens, reference checks, and prepare offer documents.
- Support onboarding and orientation for new hires.
- Assist permanent residency employees in meeting government requirements.
Employee Relations & Lifecycle Management
- Support the full employee lifecycle: onboarding, benefits, performance management, promotions, and departures.
- Conduct and analyze exit interviews to identify trends and recommend improvements.
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee files.
Culture & Engagement
- Support employee engagement activities, wellness initiatives, and culture building programs.
- Promote a respectful, inclusive, and values aligned workplace.
- Participate in HR projects and organizational initiatives.
Qualifications
- Post‑secondary education in Human Resources or Business Administration.
- Minimum 5 years of HR experience (retail or multi‑site experience preferred).
- 1–2 years of recruitment experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian employment legislation and HR best practices.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
- High level of discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Teams, and Payworks.
- CHRP designation (or working toward it) preferred.

Pay: $70,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
