JOB SUMMARY:
The Civic Properties Janitor provides janitorial services in City facilities to support safe, clean and functional public and staff spaces. The position maintains the cleanliness and general condition of assigned buildings, furnishings, fixtures and related areas. This role supports day-to-day building operations by completing routine cleaning tasks, assisting with basic facility upkeep and reporting damage, hazards and maintenance concerns to the supervisor. Performs related duties as assigned.
As a condition of employment, the incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training:
High School (Grade 12). Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver's License. RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance. W.H.M.I.S. Certificate. Building Service Worker 1 Certificate.
Experience: One (1) year of previous janitorial experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge of janitorial methods and cleaning materials. Ability to coordinate assigned cleaning and routine building maintenance tasks within established schedules and service expectations. Demonstrated care in maintaining clean and functional spaces for staff, contractors and the public. Demonstrated ability to follow safe work procedures, safely use related tools and equipment, and properly handle cleaning products. Ability to recognize, report and/or rectify actual and potential safety hazards. Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with a broad range of internal and external contacts in a respectful and professional manner. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and complete work with consistency and attention to detail. Demonstrated sound judgment in identifying hazards and referring matters that require follow-up. Ability to work independently in assigned facilities while maintaining accountability for standards and routines. Demonstrated reliable work habits and the ability to follow through on service requirements. Ability to approach work and relationships in a culturally sensitive and inclusive manner.
PAY RATE:
This is a union position with the current pay rate of $34.27 per hour as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 798 Collective Agreement.
HOURS OF WORK:
5:30 am – 12:00 midnight, Monday through Sunday, up to 8 hours per day, up to 40 hours per week.
Please note: This position is to provide extra capacity and to cover for absences such as sick and vacation relief. It requires availability for both short-notice and pre-scheduled work.
