Position Summary
The Part-Time Care Aide provides compassionate, respectful, and culturally safe personal care and support services to homecare patients in Nazko, BC as per care plans created by a registered nurse. The Care Aide promotes independence, dignity, and quality of life while working collaboratively with the Health Department, family members, and other Health care providers.
This position plays an important role in supporting the physical, emotional, social, and cultural well-being of community members while maintaining confidentiality and respecting the traditions and values of Nazko First Nation.
Reporting Relationships
The Care Aide reports administratively to the Health Director for matters related to scheduling, attendance, leave requests, performance management, and other employment matters.
For day-to-day client care, work assignments, priorities, and clinical direction, the Care Aide works under the direction of the Registered Nurses and is expected to follow care plans, instructions and priorities established by the nursing team.
Key Responsibilities
Personal Care
· Assist clients with activities of daily living, including:
o Bathing and personal hygiene
o Dressing and grooming
o Toileting and continence care
o Mobility and transfers
o Feeding and meal assistance
· Encourage clients to maintain their independence wherever possible.
· Completing Risk to Fall Assessments
· Reporting atypical vitals or skin breakdown to RNs
· Observe and report any changes in a client’s physical, emotional, or mental condition.
Home Support
· Prepare light meals and snacks according to dietary requirements as ordered by a general physician or dietician. A registered nurse can change diet orders as needed.
· Assist with light housekeeping, including:
o Changing bed linens
o Infection control
o General tidying of client living areas to prevent risk to fall
· Assist clients with organizing medications (Does not administer medications unless appropriately authorized or trained).
· Support clients with grocery shopping or essential errands as directed.
Client Support
· Assist patients to book upcoming appointments and collaborate with the Medical Travel team.
· Provide companionship and emotional support.
· Encourage participation in community, recreational, and cultural activities where appropriate.
· Promote a safe, comfortable, and respectful environment.
· Support clients in maintaining their dignity and independence.
· Pick patients up for community events when medical travel is unavailable.
Documentation and Communication
· Maintain accurate daily care notes and documentation in Mustimuhw – Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
· Report concerns, incidents, or health changes promptly to the Health Director or Registered Nurse.
· Participate in team meetings as required.
· Maintain strict confidentiality of all client information.
· Refer social needs to the Family Support Worker
Health and Safety
· Follow infection prevention and control procedures.
· Use safe body mechanics and lifting techniques.
· Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
· Follow all Nazko First Nation policies, procedures, and WorkSafeBC requirements.
· Report hazards, injuries, or unsafe conditions immediately to Health Director in writing.
Cultural Responsibilities
· Provide culturally respectful and trauma-informed care.
· Support and respect Indigenous traditions, values, and community protocols.
· Foster positive relationships with Elders, families, and community members.
Qualifications
Education
· Health Care Assistant (Care Aide) Certification from a recognized institution is considered an asset.
· An equivalent combination of relevant education, training, lived experience, and/or work experience may be considered.
· Awareness of detriments of health.
· Current registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
Experience
· Experience providing personal care or home support services is preferred.
· Experience working with Indigenous communities is considered an asset.
· Experience working with Elders is highly desirable.
Certifications
· Current First Aid and CPR Certification.
· Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
· Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
· Indigenous Cultural Competency via Northern Health Learning Hub would be considered an asset

Working Conditions
· Part-time hours as scheduled, including occasional evenings or weekends of required.
· Travel within the Nazko community and surrounding service areas.
· Work is performed primarily in clients homes.
· Position requires physical activity including lifting, transferring, bending, walking, and standing for extended periods.

Pay: $26.00-$35.00 per hour
