The Red Deer Food Bank is seeking an experienced Accounting Technician to join the organisation.

This part-time position plays a vital role in supporting the organisation's financial operations, ensuring accurate recordkeeping, timely reporting, and strong financial stewardship. The role is responsible for day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, payroll, financial reporting, and maintaining accurate financial records.
Working closely with the Executive Director and Leadership Team, the position will support effective financial management and ensure compliance with organisational policies and accounting standards.
Key Duties:
Perform day-to-day bookkeeping functions, including journal entries and reconciliations, ensuring consistent, organised, and accurate documentation and financial records.
Manage accounts payable: process vendor invoices, prepare payments, and ensure timely, accurate disbursements.
Manage accounts receivable: issue invoices, apply payments, and follow up on outstanding balances.
Manage payroll processing and related activities.
Conduct account analysis to identify discrepancies or irregularities in financial data and report them to the Executive Director.
Assist in budgeting processes and year-end financial audits by compiling relevant financial information.
Prepare reports related to account balances, transactions, cash flow, grants, and financial status for review by management and the Board of Directors.
Qualifications:
A combination of relevant accounting and/or bookkeeping education and work experience is required. A Certified Professional Bookkeeper (CPB) or accounting designation will be highly regarded.
Skills:
Proven ability to use a wide range of accounting software. Proficiency with Xero accounting software would be an asset.
Strong knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, account reconciliation, payroll processing, bookkeeping practices, and accounting principles.
Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills for account analysis, report development, and budget support.
Excellent data entry skills with high accuracy and attention to detail.
Intermediate math skills are necessary for accurate calculations and data verification.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with a diverse range of people.
Experience:
7+ years of experience in an accounting/bookkeeping role with accounts payable/receivable, account reconciliation, payroll, budgeting, and reporting responsibilities.
Experience in a not-for-profit setting with reporting responsibilities to a Board of Directors would be an asset.
Proven experience with accounting software; Xero experience preferred.
Knowledge of bookkeeping practices, accounting principles, and compliance requirements is a must.
