Sk’atsin Resources Ltd. serves as the economic development arm of the Neskonlith Indian Band, dedicated to strengthening community prosperity through stewardship, capacity building, and strategic business development in the natural resources sector.
Sk’atsin Resources directly supports Neskonlith members by:
- Managing Neskonlith forestry tenures and related business interests
- Protecting Secwépemc culture, heritage, and lands
- Conducting Cultural Heritage Assessments (CHAs) and field-based data collection
- Leading natural resource business development initiatives to grow own-source revenue
- Creating employment and training opportunities for members
- Operating natural resource field services and contracting operations
- Reinvesting business surpluses into enterprise growth and feasibility assessments
- Civil construction
Sk’atsin Resources operates across British Columbia through service areas including forestry, archaeology, fisheries, environmental services, and construction site services.
Position Overview
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) provides senior leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for Sk’atsin Resources LLP (SRLLP). Reporting to the Sk’atsin Resources Board of Directors, the CEO oversees operations across five divisions:
- Forestry
- Archaeology
- Fisheries
- Environmental Services
- Construction Site Services
The CEO ensures all activities advance Neskonlith priorities, cultural values, and long-term economic interests.
The CEO will guide business development, partnerships, revenue growth, and feasibility planning while ensuring responsible project delivery across British Columbia. The role requires close collaboration with the Board, NIB Administration, division managers, external partners, and community members.
The CEO is expected to take a proactive, hands-on leadership approach, building organizational capacity, strengthening industry relationships, supporting staff and contractors, and ensuring alignment with Neskonlith land, cultural, and resource management policies.
Organizational Context
The department currently includes three full-time staff and seasonal on-call field workers. Responsibilities include:
- Engagement with private sector and regulatory agencies on land use matters
- Fisheries, environmental, and archaeological fieldwork
- Implementation of on-reserve land use policies
The CEO will work closely with the Band Manager, Chief and Council, and leadership teams on territorial land-use matters and Nation priorities.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Business Development
- Develop and implement SRLLP’s Strategic Plan aligned with Nation values and priorities
- Lead long-term planning for forestry tenures
- Manages field services operations
- Identify expansion opportunities, partnerships, and new enterprises
- Ensure surplus revenues are strategically reinvested into new business growth
- Provide evidence-based recommendations to the Board of Directors
- Strengthen SRLLP’s reputation within the natural resource sector
Forestry Tenure Management
- Oversee all Neskonlith forestry tenures with focus on:
- Responsible harvesting practices
- Tenure development and long-term sustainability
- Profitability and revenue generation
- Integration of cultural and environmental priorities
- Work with forestry professionals, licensees, and government partners to secure opportunities
- Ensure forestry activities support employment and training for members
Wildland Firefighting and Fire Mitigation
- Develop annual budgets, forecasts, and financial plans Maintain
· Preparing and submitting bids for fire mitigation projects
· Managing and executing approved fire mitigation projects
Cultural Heritage & Stewardship
- Oversee Cultural Heritage Assessment (CHA) programs and field data quality
- Embed cultural heritage protection within all operations
- Support implementation of traditional knowledge and cultural protocols
- Maintain strong relationships with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and land stewards
Financial Management & Accountability
- Develop annual budgets, forecasts, and financial plans
- Maintain strong financial controls and risk mitigation practices
- Provide timely reporting to the Board on financial and operational performance
- Ensure profitability, sustainability, and strategic investment alignment
Civil Construction
- Develop annual budgets, forecasts, and financial plans Maintain
· Oversee bidding and tendering for civil construction projects.
· Build relationships with government agencies, developers, and contractors.
· Secure contracts and partnerships that support company growth.
Required Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of and respect for Secwépemc culture, traditions, and history
- Demonstrated track record, with knowledge and experience in developing, managing and growing an Indigenous Resource Management Company (or similar experience)
- Management experience; managing and growing a staff of 25+ employees (including field staff)
- Developing and administering contracts
- Strong written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to handle confidential information responsibly
- Knowledge of budgeting, accounting, and financial oversight processes
- Experience working with First Nations on land and resource issues
- Ability to foster partnerships and participate in complex negotiations
- Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence and reliable transportation
Preferred Assets
- Membership in a Secwépemc Nation or other Secwépemc community
- Certificate in Office Administration or related training
- 2–5 years of managerial experience
- Experience in stakeholder and partner relations
- Knowledge of Secwepemctsín language
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $175,000.00-$200,000.00 per year
