Used Car Manager
Smiths Falls Hyundai is looking for a hungry, aggressive, and experienced Used Car Manager who knows how to buy cars, price cars, turn inventory, and drive gross.
We are not looking for someone who simply manages a used car department. We are looking for a true operator — someone who understands the used car business, watches the market daily, can appraise trades properly, and knows how to make money.
The Role
The Used Car Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of the used vehicle department, including appraisals, acquisitions, pricing, reconditioning, merchandising, inventory turn, and gross profit performance.
The right person will be hands-on, competitive, and accountable. You need to know the numbers, understand the market, and be willing to move quickly.
Key Responsibilities
- Appraise trades accurately and confidently
- Acquire used inventory through trades, auctions, wholesalers, private purchases, and service drive opportunities
- Price used vehicles competitively while protecting gross profit
- Manage inventory aging and ensure vehicles are turned quickly
- Work closely with sales managers and sales consultants to close used vehicle deals
- Monitor market pricing, online listings, and competitive inventory daily
- Control reconditioning costs and cycle time
- Ensure vehicles are cleaned, photographed, merchandised, and online quickly
- Work with service and detail departments to move inventory through recon fast
- Maintain strong relationships with wholesalers, auction reps, and lenders
- Drive used vehicle volume, gross profit, finance opportunities, and trade capture
- Review daily inventory reports, aging reports, appraisal activity, and sales performance
- Hold the team accountable for follow-up on used car leads and unsold opportunities
What We Are Looking For
- Proven automotive used car management experience
- Strong appraisal skills
- Strong understanding of wholesale values, retail pricing, market days supply, and inventory turn
- Ability to buy inventory properly and avoid overpaying
- Experience with auctions, trade appraisals, wholesale networks, and online valuation tools
- Strong closing ability and deal-structuring skills
- Ability to control recon costs and avoid inventory sitting
- Competitive, driven, and hungry to make money
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to work with sales, service, detail, and accounting
- No-excuses mindset
This Position Is Not For You If
- You are scared to appraise trades
- You overpay for cars and hope the market saves you
- You let inventory age without a plan
- You blame the market instead of adjusting pricing
- You do not watch the used car market daily
- You cannot control recon
- You want a title but do not want accountability
- You are not comfortable being measured by volume, gross, turn, and aging
What We Offer
- Strong earning potential
- High-volume opportunity
- Growing automotive group
- Supportive ownership that understands the used car business
- Opportunity to build and control a serious used vehicle department
- Performance-based environment where winners are rewarded
Compensation
Compensation will be based on experience and performance. We are prepared to pay well for the right person who can produce results.
