Home Sharing Provider
Independent Contractor | $3,301.13/month
IDS is seeking an experienced, compassionate Home Sharing Provider to welcome an adult woman with a developmental disability into their home.
We are looking for more than a caregiver. Home Sharing is intended to provide a safe, stable, and welcoming home environment where the individual is respected as an adult, supported to make her own choices, and included as a valued member of the household and community.
The individual has experienced significant changes in her life and would benefit from a provider who is patient, reassuring, dependable, and interested in developing a stable, long-term Home Sharing relationship.
About the Individual
She is a 63-year-old woman who benefits from consistency, familiar routines, and a calm home environment. She enjoys spending time at home, watching television, participating in community activities, and maintaining relationships with people who are important to her.
Her faith and participation in her religious community are also very important to her. The successful provider will respect and actively support these connections and her participation in faith-related activities.
She has a medium-sized, very friendly dog who is an important part of her life. The dog will be moving with her, so a dog-friendly home is essential. Access to a secure yard or suitable outdoor space would be highly desirable.
Experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities and/or mental-health and emotional wellness needs would be an asset.
The Home We Are Looking For
Compatibility is central to a successful Home Sharing arrangement.
For this particular placement, we are seeking:
- a female provider who lives alone or with other women, in support of the individual’s personal comfort and support needs
- a home that welcomes a medium-sized, friendly dog
- a calm, predictable, and respectful household
- ideally located on the North Shore, to help the individual maintain her existing community, health-care providers, faith community, and important relationships; suitable homes elsewhere in the Lower Mainland will also be considered
- a provider interested in establishing a stable, long-term arrangement
- appropriate private bedroom space for the individual
- ideally, a secure yard or convenient access to suitable outdoor space
What the Role Involves
The Home Sharing Provider provides individualized day-to-day support based on the individual’s needs, preferences, and Person-Centred Plan.
Support may include:
- meal planning and preparation
- medication support
- coordination of and attendance at health-care appointments
- transportation and community access
- grocery shopping and personal errands
- assistance with household routines and daily living
- support with personal finances as outlined in the individual’s support plan
- recreation and meaningful community participation
- maintaining relationships with family, friends, and other important people
- supporting participation in her faith community
- emotional reassurance and support
- working collaboratively with IDS and other members of her support network
- supporting personal goals, choice, independence, and quality of life
- maintaining required records and communicating with IDS
- arranging appropriate respite/relief when required
Above all, the successful provider must understand that Home Sharing is person-centred support. The individual is an adult whose preferences, relationships, privacy, dignity, and choices must be respected.
Compensation
The total monthly amount associated with this Home Sharing placement is:
$3,301.13 per month
This funding supports the overall Home Sharing arrangement, including the provision of accommodation and agreed-upon supports. It is not an hourly wage.
The Home Sharing Provider is an independent contractor and is not an IDS employee.
Provider Requirements
Applicants must be willing and able to meet IDS and CLBC Home Sharing requirements, including:
- satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- current First Aid and CPR certification
- a suitable home and successful Home Study
- satisfactory references
- relevant experience, skills, and demonstrated ability to meet the individual’s support needs
- completion of IDS orientation and any training specific to the individual’s needs
- appropriate insurance coverage
- valid BC driver’s licence and satisfactory driver’s abstract where transportation is provided
- appropriate vehicle insurance when using a personal vehicle to transport the individual
Relevant experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities is strongly preferred.
IDS provides ongoing coordination, support, and monitoring throughout the Home Sharing arrangement.
The Matching Process
Home Sharing is about compatibility, trust, and relationship, not simply meeting minimum qualifications.
Shortlisted applicants will have an opportunity to learn more about the individual’s support needs, preferences, routines, interests, and what is important to her.
The individual will be actively involved in deciding who she would like to live with.
Before a placement is approved, IDS will complete the required screening process, including interviews, reference checks, a Home Study, and other required documentation.
Interested?
Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter telling us:
- about your experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities
- who currently lives in your household
- the type of accommodation you could offer
- about your experience living with or caring for dogs
- why Home Sharing interests you
- what you believe helps create a safe, respectful, and welcoming home
We recognize that choosing a Home Sharing Provider is about much more than qualifications. Compatibility, trust, communication, and the individual’s preferences are central to the matching process.
We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only applicants selected for further discussion will be contacted.
