Full job description

Position: Community Navigator

Hours: Part time - 24 hrs per week

Location: In person with some virtual - Lower Mainland

Compensation: $22.95/hour

Start date: As soon as possible

Pacific Immigrant Resources Society (PIRS) is a community-based, non-profit organization serving immigrant and refugee women and their young children since 1975. PIRS delivers accessible, inclusive, low-barrier programs for immigrant and refugee women and their children that create a sense of belonging, meaningful participation and leadership.

The Community Navigator plays an important role in supporting refugee and asylum-seeking women as they access settlement, employment, health, language, and community services. This position helps create welcoming pathways to connection, empowerment, and opportunity through individualized support, community outreach, and group facilitation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Community Navigation

Provide culturally responsive, trauma-informed support to immigrant and refugee women
Connect participants to housing, health care, language, employment, and other settlement resources
Coordinate referrals and follow-up support to address barriers to service access

Collaboration & Community Partnerships

Build relationships with community agencies and service providers to strengthen participant supports
Represent the organization at community events and inter-agency initiatives
Support outreach efforts in the development and distribution of community resource materials

Documentation & Reporting

Maintain accurate participant records, referrals, and service documentation
Track outcomes and contribute to program reporting requirements
Ensure compliance with organizational policies related to confidentiality, safety, and participant well-being

Group Facilitation

Lead the coordination and recruitment of women’s support circles and group sessions to promote connection, peer learning, and emotional support among participants
Develop engaging content and activities for participants

JOB SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS

Relevant post-secondary education or a combination of education and experience
Experience working with immigrant, refugee, and asylum-seeking communities (lived experience preferred)
Fluency in the language of target populations (Farsi, Spanish, Dari, Pashto, Arabic preferred)
Excellent communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills
Knowledge of community, settlement, and mental health resources
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Proficiency with data entry and reporting systems

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to adapt and learn quickly with a growth mindset
Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed approaches
Proficient in using various software and digital tools
Ability to work in a team environment and independently
Possession of non-judgmental and positive attitudes (culture, religion, race, gender, sexuality, special needs) and freedom from stereotypes
Passion for inclusivity and diversity, with an interest in being part of a multicultural team
Attitudes and values aligned with the goals and philosophy of PIRS

WORKING CONDITIONS

Part-time position (24 hours/week) dependent on project funding
Some evening and weekend work may be required
Ability to work in person and virtually across Lower Mainland communities (Surrey, New West, Vancouver, Burnaby)
Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for travel across Lower Mainland communities is an asset
Program delivery activities may require a moderate level of physical fitness to carry out duties of the position
Successful criminal record check required
