About Bodwell High School
Bodwell High School is a Grade 8–12 independent day and boarding school located on the waterfront in North Vancouver, BC. We are seeking a BC-certified Music/Band Teacher who can lead and grow our music program while contributing to the broader creative life of the school. The ideal candidate will have strong experience teaching band and music, and may also be able to teach or support courses in Art, Digital Media, Photography, or related creative areas.
The Opportunity
The Music/Band Teacher will teach within Bodwell’s academic program and help strengthen student engagement in music, performance, and the arts. This role is ideal for a teacher who is passionate about building student confidence, developing musical skill, creating performance opportunities, and contributing to a positive school culture.
The successful candidate will be able to teach music and band courses across multiple grade levels, support student performances and school events, and help students develop both technical ability and creative expression.
While the primary focus is Music/Band, Bodwell is especially interested in candidates who can also contribute to other creative areas, such as Art, Digital Media, Photography, Graphic Arts, or Media Arts, depending on the candidate’s background and the school’s timetable needs.
Key Responsibilities
The Music/Band Teacher will:
- Teach Music and Band courses in alignment with the BC curriculum and Bodwell’s academic expectations.
- Lead and develop school band programming, including rehearsals, performances, and student showcases.
- Support students in developing musical literacy, instrumental skill, ensemble discipline, creativity, and confidence.
- Prepare students for school concerts, assemblies, community events, and other performance opportunities.
- Encourage student participation in music and the arts across a diverse, multicultural school community.
- Teach or support additional creative courses where qualified, which may include:
- Art 10-12; Junior Art; Digital Media; Photography; Graphic Arts; Media Arts; Creative technology or related electives
- Support English Language Learners and students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
- Collaborate with teachers, counsellors, boarding staff, activity staff, and school leadership.
- Contribute to a student-centred, compassionate, and globally minded school culture.
- Help build a visible and engaging arts presence within the school community.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must have:
- A valid BC teaching certificate.
- A bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Music, Fine Arts, Arts Education, or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to teach Music and Band at the secondary school level.
- Strong instrumental music skills and experience leading ensembles.
- Ability to plan, organize, and lead student performances.
- Eligibility to work in Canada.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate may also have:
- Experience teaching BC secondary Music and Band courses; Art, Digital Media, Photography, Graphic Arts, or Media Arts
- Experience teaching English Language Learners.
- Experience working in a multicultural or international school environment.
- Experience with IB, especially the Middle Years Programme.
- Experience organizing concerts, assemblies, showcases, festivals, or community performances.
- Ability to support students with varied levels of musical background, from beginner to advanced.
- Familiarity with music technology, recording, digital composition, or production tools.
- Comfort using digital and AI tools responsibly for teaching, creativity, feedback, planning, or production.
- Interest in connecting music and the arts to student confidence, communication, creativity, and future pathways.
