Position: LIFE Services Coach

Position Type: Part-time, 15 hours per week

Location: Vernon, BC

Work Location: Primarily in-person, with limited remote work as operationally required

Wage: $27-$30/hour depending on experience with wage reviews annually

Posting Summary:

As a LIFE Services Coach, you play an important role in helping teenagers and adults with
diverse abilities build the confidence and skills needed to live more independently and participate fully in their communities. Working directly with clients in their homes and throughout the community, you will provide individualized coaching that promotes independence, self-advocacy, meaningful relationships, and an enhanced quality of life.

Can YOU empower individuals to achieve greater independence by teaching practical life skills such as meal preparation, budgeting, transportation, communication, and self-advocacy?

Can YOU build trusting relationships while supporting clients to overcome everyday challenges, develop confidence, strengthen social connections, and work toward meaningful personal goals?

Can YOU adapt your coaching style to meet each individual's unique strengths, learning style, and support needs while celebrating progress every step of the way?

Duties and Responsibilities

● Support clients in building independence by developing daily living skills (e.g., meal preparation, budgeting, time management, hygiene, and self-advocacy), setting individualized goals with actionable steps, and teaching community navigation skills such as using public transit, accessing services, and practicing safety.
● Facilitate social connection and community engagement by supporting clients in participating in recreational activities and developing communication skills such as expressing needs, setting boundaries, and building interpersonal relationships.
● Support clients in managing their personal schedules and commitments, including organizing appointments and maintaining routines related to health and wellness such
as meal planning, attending medical visits, and understanding basic nutrition and exercise.
● Provide personalized coaching and encouragement in real-world settings, using tools
such as visual schedules, social stories, and role-play, and adjusting techniques to match each client’s learning style, strengths, and comfort level.
● Create Careplans and Lesson Plans for each person served that address their personal goals.
● Monitor and document client progress through detailed case notes and monthly summaries, while maintaining regular communication with families, team members, and supervisors to ensure consistent and integrated support.
● Ensure all documentation (e.g., timesheets, reports, data, client updates) is completed accurately and submitted on time.
● Promote self-management, problem-solving, and decision-making in clients by gradually
reducing support where appropriate (fading).
● Assist with conflict resolution and offer guidance in managing social or environmental challenges.
● Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and respectful communication at all times.
● Provide information and support to the client’s family and care team, where appropriate, so as to facilitate integration between the work environment and home/community environments.
● Communicate with the manager explicitly with regards to any skills which may need to be developed to facilitate success.
● Work under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; and operating within a defined budget

Qualifications:

● LIFE Services Coaches are expected to be person-centered, reliable, and passionate about supporting clients toward independence and community inclusion.
● Ability to teach and coach individuals in daily living skills, adapting support to meet each client’s goals, learning style, and schedule.
● Demonstrates effective communication, active listening, and relationship-building with clients, families, and team members.
● Strong organizational skills, time management, and the ability to problem-solve and develop practical, client-centered solutions.
● Understanding of diverse disabilities and the corresponding best practices, with a focus on supporting neurodiverse, developmental, cognitive, and physical needs.
● Familiar with local resources, services, and safe community-based practices, with the ability to maintain accurate records and write clear, objective case notes.
● Basic knowledge of wellness and health maintenance strategies.A diploma in a field related to supporting persons with disabilities
● Experience in working with individuals with disabilities
● Vehicle with a Valid Driver’s license
● Driver’s abstract
● Current first Aid Certificate
● Criminal Record Check
● Non Violent Crisis Prevention or Mandt Certificate

Candidates must be over 19 years old to apply and are willing to complete a Criminal Record Check and obtain their Emergency First Aid/CPR.

Working Conditions

● Working conditions and hours of work will vary depending on the specific job and job site. The job may need to be performed under some temperature extremes (i.e., outside in winter, in freezer, over a grill, etc.) and in a generally hazard free environment.
● Willingness to work with clients who may exhibit challenging behaviors, including aggression.
● Willingness to follow safety protocols, including de-escalation techniques, regular team check-ins, and MANDT training.
● There is potential for workers to experience verbal aggression, such as swearing, or physical aggression, which could result in injury.
