The Lord Elgin Hotel is ideally situated in the heart of downtown Ottawa, directly across from Confederation Park and the National Arts Centre. The hotel is just steps from the Rideau Canal, the Shaw Centre, Parliament Hill, and the Rideau Centre. With 15 meeting rooms offering a combined 14,000 square feet of flexible event space, the hotel provides modern amenities, including high-speed wireless internet, making it an ideal venue for meetings, conferences, and special events.
Scope:
The successful candidate for this integral, customer focused, revenue generating position will share our values and dedication to customer service and exceeding expectations. Working closely with our Food and Beverage team, the Catering Manager will be responsible for managing, coordinating and executing group assignments turned over by our Sales team or short term leads initiated in the Catering office. Under the direction of the Director of Sales and Marketing, this key position will work closely with the Banquet Manager and Executive Chef to ensure accurate execution of functions.
Full-time Monday to Friday & weekends and evenings as needed.
Primary Responsibilities:
-Supporting and expanding existing client accounts through ongoing relationship management and business development.
-Conducting outside sales calls, telephone solicitation and site inspections per goals to build relationships and aggressively target the business
-*Closing sales and meeting established long and short-term business goals within budget
-Conduct account and market research and use to develop strategies to grow market share in specific segment
-Development and implementation of effective marketing plan for segment
-Participating in business and industry related clubs and organizations
-Entertaining clients on/off -site, representing the hotel in a professional manner
-Attend MPI and CSAE events
-Maintain and submit activity reports (Delphi) and action plans as well as other reports as requested.
-Attend weekly sales meetings and other meetings, as requested
-Other duties/projects as assigned
Qualifications:
-Minimum of 5 years sales experience in hospitality industry, Association market experience preferred.
-Completion of Post secondary education and/or equivalent industry experience
-Successful applicant must be an aggressive self-starter with excellent organization, presentation, customer service and communication skills
-Must have demonstrated experience with setting strategies to penetrate accounts.
-Be a team player, lending support to colleagues when possible and in turn seeking support when required. Maintains an upbeat demeanor and attitude
-Strong negotiation and prospecting skills
-Completion of industry related selling courses is an asset
-Must have established industry contacts and knowledge of marketplace
-Must be thorough and detail oriented with strong organizational skills
-Computer literacy (excel, word, group booking systems, internet, email, etc.)
-Must have ability to work under minimal supervision and with priority deadlines
