This posting is for an upcoming vacancy of position with increased responsibility. The Wage is $21.40-$23.40/ hour.
Objectives:
- Perform all duties related to operating a forklift including moving unfinished and finished products in and out of production
- To maintain an organized shop, while respecting the strict safety guidelines that govern the operation of a forklift.
- To ensure all cut stone workers have enough stone to keep busy and are working safely ensuring jobs in assigned sector of the shop are completed related to production targets. Reporting successes and challenges directly to the Cut Stone supervisor.
Job Duties:
- Ensure work is completed in your sector to meet production targets proactively highlighting any issues to your supervisor for resolution
- Assess conditions (wet or dry), be aware of surroundings always, and use rearview mirrors.
- Taking stone from point “A” to point “B” safely, without damaging the stone.
- Performing daily inspections and completing circle check forms to submit to maintenance.
- Keep a supply of proper material on hand and store material safely in an organized system.
- Loading saws, ensuring quality of stone, and reading tickets
- Able to balance multiple requests for stone movement and fulfill production needs.
- Tearing down blocks and properly banding and clamping products as required.
- Following Standard Operating Procedures and ensuring the forklift is being driven properly.
- Following instructions and paperwork while meeting production targets.
- Assess quality standards and proactively communicate any issues with material to supervisor.
- Housekeeping duties- ensuring that emergency exits, emergency shut offs, and safety equipment are accessible.
- Connects with production workers and supervisors to resolve problems.
- Corrects substandard work or replaces defective product.
- Reviews product packaging/palletizing to ensure products are protected for shipment.
- Assist with compliance of health and safety guidelines and commend employees for health and safety performance.
- Proper use and training of PPE and safety equipment.
- Perform daily workplace inspections and correcting unsafe practices and/or equipment.
Skills Required:
- Extremely organized with the ability to anticipate stone needs to keep operators busy
- Very driven to keep working and meet production targets.
- Knowledge of stone and stone production an asset
- Proven leadership skills using diplomacy and tact.
- Forklift experience with attention to quality
- Physically able: ex: lift to 50lbs.
- Strong attention to detail
- Experience in supervising workers an asset
- Punctuality- must be on time for shifts and breaks.
- Reliable- proper attendance is essential for this mainly seasonal position.
Working conditions:
- Busy environment requiring lots of prioritization and trouble shooting.
- Working in hot and cold conditions.
- Working in wet and dusty conditions.
- Physically demanding and ability to work in a loud environment.
- Able to sit for long periods of time.
- Ability to follow key safety protocols is essential to maintaining a safe work environment (i.e. balanced load)
