A “good” place to learn about Insurance. Would recommend for students fresh out of a program or anyone looking to break into the industry. After 10 yrs of employment with this company however, I would not work there again.

What to expect:
- Heavy work-loads (especially at year-end).
- Little to no Work-Life balance.
- Work-From-Home hybrid (for certain departments / licenses)
- Poor Management support 
- Dwindling budget for bonuses, new staff and / or cost of living increases (they are forever renovating their offices for some reason though?)
- Old-Fashioned way of thinking / doing business - not current with “the times”
- Overtime is consistently required to complete work assigned (but they do NOT pay Overtime, salary only)
- Flaky HR department, with lacklustre resolution skills and zero accountability 
- Toxic employee environments, situated in cramped, low-rise cubicle areas.
- Only CE’s can buy stock options but all employees can participate in RRSP match and vacation-purchasing programs.
- Employee Wellness program (this program is actually very good)

If you are looking to learn and an entry-level position - this is a very good opportunity. If you don’t enjoy being taken advantage of (or feeling as though your hard work is not appreciated) however, this work environment is not for you. 


The environment was extremely toxic both in staff  and management.  The excess of alcohol offered during working hours is not acceptable.  This was the hardest part of the job.  

What I enjoyed most was the work in general and interaction with clients to ensure their needs were met.  

I learned from this job that I require a well managed and organized company where staff take pride in the job they do and respect is supported by all.  

I was laid off to due poor growth of the company and my position was eliminated.  An experience I will use to my advantage and continue to bring positive growth in my future career path.

A typical day at work was very fast paced.  My colleagues help made my job easier by being supportive and helpful.  I have learned the importance of being attentive to details and in maintaining rapport with our clients on a daily basis.  Our department manager was kind and supportive to their employees which created a positive work environment where I was happy to come to work each and every day.

This was a great company to work with. They supported the works with extended training as well addressed everyone,s concerns to the best of there knowledge.The crews all enjoyed working with each other and that made it a pleasure to be apart of that team environment.

great culture and a place where many relationships are built.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
In the IT department, constantly busy from start to end of work day

High turnover at this place. Segregation is strong amongst ALL departments. Management has preferential treatment. Wages not very competitive. Positions available to "grow within the company" is limited. Slow changes with policies, job tasks and systems. Management offers flexible days off but doesn't offer remote work to everybody - only if you're an executive.

BFL was my first job after finishing my undergrad. I was working in the Communications and Compliance department. The president of this department was a bit intimidating, but very fair. If you did your work well, she was happy, and always willing to help when help was needed. Overall, BFL is a great place to work.

Management walks the talk here. They talk about fair work life balance, and it shows in the culture that they mean it. 
No pressure on working from home if you need to or taking time for appointments. They encourage teamwork and collaboration with everyone. There are no real "social classes" here, everyone just seems to get along with ease.

Responsibility falls heavily on CSR intead of producers



Would give this company 5/10. With the new Branch Manager, I can comment that he is fair, easy to approach.  The staff was clicky and non supportive if you didn't fit their mould.
