I particularly enjoyed engaging with students, clarifying their doubts, and seeing their progress over the semester. It gave me a sense of fulfillment to contribute to their learning journey. At times, balancing multiple responsibilities—such as grading, holding office hours, and preparing materials—was challenging, but it helped me build strong organizational and time management skills.

Overall, this teaching assistantship has not only enhanced my academic and interpersonal abilities but also confirmed my interest in mentoring and guiding others. The experience has provided valuable insight into effective teaching strategies and will continue to shape my approach to leadership and communication in future professional roles.

The Advertising Manager’s job is to  manage the advertising production of 9 publications across 2 campuses as well as a team or advertising and distribution staff and volunteers. Day to day tasks require prospecting advertising sales, graphic design, understanding current advertising methodology, being able to assess a clients needs and build advertising relationships. As well as develop customer retention programs and grow distribution channels.
The pros of this job are getting to work and form friendships with numerous community partners and businesses. Getting to constantly come up with new creative ideas to engage readers and listeners. 
The Cons are that this is a student run organization with a high turn over which sometimes leads to a disconnect in communication and requires a re-learning process at the start of each year.

Working here was like riding a wave sometimes, things were never consistent. For starters, they put me at the cash register on my first day on the job without any prior training and told me to tell customers that I was in training and to "just have patience". After a few weeks of trial and error, for lack of a better expression, they told me that I was ready to do stock. Again, they did not train me and just expected that I already knew where everything was and how it all worked. The work place was always hectic, even when the store was empty I still found myself running all over the place trying to get everything done. Then there were days where nothing needed to be done (or so it seemed) and management would say nothing but then single you out later in the week for something that they did not clarify. Overall, I would recommend against working here mainly because of management. Not that the work was hard, the labour itself was not at all intensive. The most enjoyable part was leaving bulk barn for good.

Working at Laurier was a new experience for me in that I had no set 'position' and was utilized where I was needed around campus in various departments and positions. For a time I worked as a file clerk, I conducted research for various administrators, I wrote and edited academic presentations, I spend some time assisting with events planning and even preformed manual labour packing and moving boxes and furniture (in preparation for an office renovation). This fluidity provided me a plethora of experience; I learned how to conduct myself and communicate effectively in a professional, academic environment and how to adapt quickly to new responsibilities. My co-workers were friendly, intelligent and patient, providing a supportive and comfortable work space that fostered quality performance. I am a better, more communicative employee for having worked there. 

At this job, I walk around the classroom to make sure everyone has the required pages up on their computer screens following along with the lab instructor. After the lab instructor completes his talk, the students would begin a quiz and task where I would keep a close eye on students to make sure no one cheats. I would also assist students as needed if they have any questions. Since I was an instructional assistant for a computer science course, I have learned in depth what Microsoft Office has to offer to everyone. Everyone that I have worked with within the 1.5 years have been friendly and very easy to get along with. Even the lab instructor was easy to get in contact with if I had any questions and was always very approachable in the classroom for the students as well as the instructional assistants. I definitely really enjoyed this job and would do it again if an opportunity came along.

Amazing place to work in all aspects but financial.  Everyone is very kind and understanding, the job is fun and allows you to be creative, and it is not very demanding. However, I have found that you actually lose money taking this job. Free rent is nice, but you are also required to spend over a thousand dollars on a meal plan (even if your residence has a kitchen). In comparison, we are only paid about $1200, which does not even cover half the meal plan usually. So, you get to live for free, but you will not make a single dollar extra for other expenses. This is especially annoying when you are being forced to act as front-line security for the school and put yourself in dangerous and traumatic situations sometimes, and have nothing to show for it in terms of profit. Also, there is a two-week long (10 hours a day) training program that you do not get paid a cent to do. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
I worked as a student and being an ambassador was the best job I could have there. 
They provided a lot of training, group engaging activities for team bounding and preparation for giving tours and info at the Ontario University Fair.
You can give your availability and you can ask to be covered if you have school commitments or you can cover someone else.
Overall, great experience, a lot of flexibility and a fun environment!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Sometimes you have to memorize a lot of information and being up to date, but you get used to, not too bad.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Amazing, I had a great time with the team and also by myself.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Shifts are typically 2 hours, you give tours to prospects, walk and talk about Laurier.

Laurier itself is a very respectable school. There Student Union is very strong and full of exciting and enthusiastic people. This was a volunteer that I feel deserves the rights to sit at par with my jobs and what I learned from them. My team was very close, probably as close as my family. They taught me many things to consider within life and what is important to me. I feel being on this team was probably one of the biggest things to have ever shaped me. The hardest part for me would actually be saying good bye. The balance was amazing and the people I got to meet throughout Laurier were amazing. A good lesson in life with communication and positivity.

Being a teaching assistant (TA) and a examination proctor at WLU was a great experience for me. As a first-time TA, there were many resources available to help me better my teaching skills and further my knowledge. The support system in place for teachers was excellent, and I felt I was constantly becoming more comfortable (while still challenged) in this role because of these resources. I worked with other grad students, and some excellent faculty members. The hardest part of this job was the learning curve, as it was quite steep. I enjoyed working with students and seeing the progress they made, as well as seeing the progress for myself.
