Step into a leadership role where your actions directly support safe, high-quality care in a complex and ever-changing correctional health environment. As an Assistant Health Care Manager, you'll partner closely with the Health Care Manager to coordinate clinic operations, support primary care and psychiatry services, oversee nursing staff, and ensure the timely ordering of medical supplies and medications. You'll also play a key role in advancing the electronic medical record system, liaising with Infection Prevention and Control partners, and supporting occupational health initiatives. In this fast-paced setting, you'll regularly support front-line staff in troubleshooting barriers—often navigating competing priorities between healthcare and institutional operations—while collaborating with key partners such as staff sergeants and operational managers to get results.
This role is ideal for a strong, people-centered leader who combines assertiveness with kindness and leads through influence, trust, and collaboration. You'll be responsible for guiding and encouraging your team, while also managing critical HR-related processes such as scheduling and invoicing—making a background in these areas essential. Success requires someone who is highly organized, able to manage multiple priorities, and willing to step in beyond standard hours when needed. A true team player and relationship-builder, you'll foster a respectful and inclusive workplace while driving accountability and performance. For a motivated leader who thrives in a dynamic environment and is committed to supporting both staff and patient outcomes, this role offers a meaningful and rewarding opportunity.
About the job
Leadership is about impact, and in this role, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful one. You will:
Lead daily clinical operations and resolve frontline challenges by supporting nursing and non-regulated staff, organizing primary care and psychiatry clinics, and ensuring care is delivered safely and efficiently, while actively troubleshooting operational barriers raised by floor staff and coordinating timely solutions.
Provide strong, people-centered leadership using an assertive yet respectful and kind approach, coaching and mentoring staff, encouraging teamwork, and fostering a psychologically safe, inclusive workplace where individuals feel supported and motivated to perform at their best.
Manage staffing and key HR-related processes by overseeing scheduling and invoicing, supporting attendance and performance management, and contributing to recruitment and retention efforts while ensuring alignment with collective agreements and ministry expectations.
Collaborate with key operational partners to get results by building strong relationships with staff sergeants, managers, and institutional stakeholders to navigate competing priorities between healthcare and operations and ensure coordinated, effective decision-making.
Promote quality, safety, and compliance by monitoring service delivery, analyzing operational data, and ensuring adherence to legislation, policies, IPAC standards, and professional practice requirements within a complex clinical environment.
Drive coordination and continuous improvement by working with physicians, pharmacy services, and external providers, while supporting medical supply and medication management, EMR initiatives, occupational health efforts, and ongoing risk management activities.
Your ability to align your team's efforts with broader organizational goals will be key to your success, and to the success of the people we serve.
