Position Summary

Dze L K'ant Friendship Centre Society is seeking two qualified and passionate Early Childhood Educators to join the Friendship Centre Cub House team.

As an Early Childhood Educator (ECE), you will play a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming, and culturally grounded environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive. Working collaboratively with families, Elders, and fellow educators, you will support children's physical, emotional, intellectual, social, and spiritual development through play-based learning, cultural teachings, and relationship-based care.

Guided by Indigenous values, the BC Early Learning Framework, and the principles of AHSABC, you will help foster a strong sense of belonging, identity, and community connection for every child in your care.

Reports To
Executive Director

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Planning and Program Delivery

Plan, implement, and evaluate developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
Incorporate Indigenous culture, language, stories, songs, and land-based learning opportunities into daily programming.
Create engaging environments that support exploration, creativity, problem-solving, and social-emotional growth.
Adapt programming to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of children.
Foster children's confidence, independence, and love of learning.

Child Development and Well-Being

Support children's emotional, social, physical, intellectual, and spiritual development.
Observe and respond to children's needs using a strengths-based and relationship-focused approach.
Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and healthy peer interactions.
Maintain accurate observations, learning stories, portfolios, and developmental documentation.
Participate in the development of Individual Support Plans when required.

Family and Community Engagement

Build strong, respectful relationships with parents, caregivers, and extended family members.
Communicate regularly with families regarding children's development, experiences, and achievements.
Encourage family participation in programming, cultural activities, and community events.
Support intergenerational learning opportunities through collaboration with Elders and Knowledge Keepers.

Cultural Integration and Community Connection

Integrate Indigenous teachings, values, language, and cultural practices into daily activities.
Support cultural celebrations, seasonal teachings, and land-based learning opportunities.
Foster a culturally safe and inclusive environment where children and families feel respected and valued.
Promote children's connection to community, culture, and identity.

Team Collaboration and Professional Development

Work collaboratively with the Lead ECE, Infant/Toddler Educators, ECE Assistants, ASCD staff, and other support staff.
Participate in staff meetings, curriculum planning, and professional development activities.
Provide mentorship and guidance to ECE Assistants and practicum students when appropriate.
Contribute to a positive, supportive, and respectful team environment.

Health and Safety

Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children at all times.
Follow Child Care Licensing Regulations, centre policies, and health and safety procedures.
Maintain safe, clean, and organized learning environments.
Support emergency preparedness and incident reporting requirements.

Qualifications

Required

Valid BC Early Childhood Educator Certificate and License to Practice.
Current First Aid Certification.
Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
Medical Clearance.
Strong understanding of child development and early learning principles.

Preferred

Experience working in Indigenous early learning environments.
Knowledge of Indigenous culture, language revitalization, and land-based learning approaches.
Familiarity with the BC Early Learning Framework and AHSABC principles.
Experience developing culturally responsive programming.
