POSITION SUMMARY
The Intermediate Business Analyst drives business improvements by defining needs, requirements, and practical solutions aligned with strategic goals. They collaborate across teams to ensure successful project delivery, support high-quality results, and foster teamwork while mentoring junior analysts.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Analysis – General
- Partners with stakeholders to define and monitor the business rationale, expected benefits, and desired outcomes of change initiatives, including support for business case development.
- Applies business analysis best practices to plan, manage, and execute analysis activities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Acts as a key liaison between business units and technology teams, translating strategic objectives into clear business, stakeholder, functional, and non-functional requirements.
- Maintains end-to-end requirements traceability to support scope control, solution alignment, and effective change management.
- Facilitates stakeholder engagement to elicit, analyze, validate, and document business and system requirements.
- Contributes to solution design by ensuring proposed changes are aligned with business needs, operational realities, and project objectives.
- Supports the coordination, communication, implementation, and rollout of system and process enhancements to enable successful transition to business operations.
- Contributes to the development, documentation, and maintenance of PMO methodologies, standards, and business analysis best practices.
- Develops and promotes the use of standardized templates, tools, and frameworks to improve consistency and quality across project teams.
Business Process Management
- Collaborates with stakeholders to evaluate and improve business processes, with a focus on efficiency, effectiveness, and the optimal use of enabling solutions.
- Conducts current-state and gap analysis to identify process inefficiencies, risks, and opportunities for scalable, data-informed improvements.
- Supports the development and adoption of business analysis and process improvement best practices across the organization.
- Provides guidance and mentorship to less experienced business analysts as appropriate.
Quality Assurance
- Leads and coordinates quality assurance activities in collaboration with business stakeholders and project team members.
- Develops and maintains testing documentation, including test strategies, test plans, test cases, and test results.
- Tracks, manages, and supports the resolution of defects, issues, and risks in accordance with established defect management processes.
- Monitors and reports on testing progress, quality metrics, and outcomes to support informed decision-making.
Change Management
- Creates clear training and support materials and delivers end-user education sessions to support the successful adoption of new systems, processes, and ways of working.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Dedicated to the principles of exceptional service; committed to responding to, anticipating, and addressing customer needs, for both internal and external customers.
- Post-secondary degree in a related field such as Business Administration, Business Analysis, Computer Science, or a comparable discipline is required.
- Minimum 3 years of progressive business analysis experience, preferably within the insurance industry.
- CCBA certification from the IIBA is required.
- Working knowledge of MB Blue Cross business areas, processes, products, solutions, and project methodologies is an asset
- Highly proficient verbal and written communicator, with the ability to clearly translate complex subject matter to technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels of the organization, resulting in concise and clear technical documentation and business requirements.
- Highly skilled at facilitating collaboration between cross-functional stakeholders to establish common understanding, build consensus, make decisions and solve problems.
- Ability to translate complex business needs into clear user stories, use cases, requirements, and acceptance criteria for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated knowledge of testing practices, including the development of test strategies, test plans, test cases, and test execution.
- Highly skilled analytical thinker, capable of assessing complex problems, analyzing root causes, making informed decisions, and developing effective solutions.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing as an engaged and collaborative team member.
- Self-directed, with exceptional organizational skills and a proven record of managing and prioritizing multiple tasks within varied and dynamic timelines on an ongoing basis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Teams, Jira, Confluence, and process-mapping tools such as Lucidchart.
- Thorough understanding of Agile and Waterfall delivery methodologies; familiarity with insurance-related systems and SAP is considered an asset.
- Ability to create effective training materials and delivers end-user learning sessions to support change adoption.
- Committed to life-long learning and professional development, capable of completing industry education programs entailing self-directed study and the writing of graded examinations.
