Job Summary
As a Production Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the overall production process and ensuring the efficient and timely manufacturing of high-quality animal feed. This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, basic computer skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
A key part of this role involves using Progressor software to support production activities, monitor batch progress, assist with production documentation, track ingredient usage, and help ensure accurate production records. The Production Assistant will work closely with the production team to meet production targets while maintaining strict adherence to quality, safety, HACCP, and Feed Assure standards.
Key Responsibilities
· Assist in the operation of various equipment and machinery involved in the production process, such as mixers, hammermill, roller mill, flaker, pellet mills, conveyors, and receiving equipment.
· Use Progressor software to support daily production activities, including monitoring production orders, batch progress, formulas, ingredient usage, production status, and related production information.
· Enter, review, and maintain accurate production data in Progressor and other required production records, including batch numbers, ingredient usage, equipment information, production reports, and documentation required for traceability.
· Monitor the production process through Progressor and on the production floor, identify any issues, alarms, delays, shortages, or deviations, and report them to the Shift Lead or Production Supervisor.
· Follow standard operating procedures, production instructions, formulas, recipes, and safety protocols to ensure the production process runs smoothly and efficiently.
· Measure and weigh ingredients accurately according to established formulas, recipes, and production requirements.
· Conduct regular quality checks on raw materials, intermediate products, and finished feeds to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards.
· Support HACCP, Feed Assure, quality control, and traceability requirements by ensuring production records and system entries are accurate, complete, and completed in a timely manner.
· Collaborate with the production team to maintain a clean and organized work environment, including cleaning equipment, removing waste, and sweeping production areas.
· Assist in equipment setup, changeovers, and routine maintenance tasks under the guidance of maintenance technicians or appropriate team members.
· Support inventory management by monitoring ingredient levels, reporting shortages, assisting in stock rotation, and supporting accurate material handling.
· Communicate production updates, system concerns, equipment issues, ingredient shortages, or quality concerns to the appropriate team members.
· Participate in training programs to enhance knowledge of Progressor software, production processes, equipment operation, safety procedures, HACCP requirements, and quality control protocols.
· Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by suggesting process enhancements, cost-saving measures, efficiency improvements, and ways to improve the use of Progressor and production systems.
· Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including those related to safety, quality control, sanitation, environmental regulations, HACCP, Feed Assure, and production standards.
· Ensure all HACCP, Feed Assure, quality, and food safety guidelines, rules, and regulations are being followed throughout the production process.
· Complete all required documentation accurately and on time, including production records, batch information, traceability records, and information entered into Progressor or other production systems.
· Report any quality, documentation, ingredient, contamination, traceability, or production concerns immediately to the appropriate supervisor.
· Follow all applicable health and safety regulations.
· Work in a safe manner at all times.
· Support, implement, and follow all health and safety initiatives and processes for the company.
· Report hazards, near misses, incidents, unsafe conditions, equipment concerns, or production issues promptly.
· Use required personal protective equipment and follow safe work procedures, including equipment and mill safety requirements.
· Must be able to lift 25 kg.
· Must be able to stand for extended periods.
· Must be able to move bagged feed on hand carts and mini trays.
· Temperature will fluctuate within the warehouse during seasonal weather changes.
· Work environment may occasionally be dusty, including during blow downs and cleaning activities.
· Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, walking, standing, and material handling.
Required Qualifications
· Previous experience in a production or manufacturing environment, preferably in a feed mill or related industry, is desirable.
· Basic understanding of production processes and equipment used in feed milling.
· Experience with Progressor or similar production, batching, automation, or manufacturing software/systems is an asset.
· Basic computer skills and familiarity with production software or systems is an advantage.
· Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
· Ability to enter, review, and maintain accurate production information and documentation.
· Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
· Good communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with the production team and other departments.
· Ability to identify and report production, quality, inventory, system, or equipment issues in a timely manner.
· Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
· Commitment to safety and adherence to safety guidelines and regulations.
· Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed.
Education
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Additional technical or vocational training in production or manufacturing is a plus.
Required Minimum Experience
· 1 + years of previous production or manufacturing experience preferred.
· Experience in animal/agriculture experience preferred, but training is available.
· Experience using Progressor, production software, batching systems, or feed mill automation is considered an asset.
Work Schedule/ Work Hours
· Full Time - Afternoon and Night Shift
· 40 hours a week; with occasional overtime and weekend work.
