Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated and energetic Steel Fabrication Shop Labourer / Pre-Apprentice to join our dynamic manufacturing team. This entry-level role offers a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in steel fabrication, machining, and assembly processes while working in a fast-paced, safety-focused environment. As a vital member of our team, you will assist with various shop floor tasks, learn essential skills, and contribute to the production of high-quality steel components. This paid position is ideal for individuals eager to develop their mechanical knowledge and pursue a career in the trades.

Duties

Assist with loading, unloading, and organizing raw materials and finished products using hand tools and basic machinery.
Support skilled technicians with tasks involving CNC laser cutting, plasma cutting, and press brake operations.
Help prepare materials for fabrication, reading blueprints, and setting up equipment.
Operate forklifts and cranes safely to move heavy steel components around the shop floor.
Participate in quality inspection procedures to ensure parts meet specifications through visual checks and measurement tools.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following safety protocols and proper tool storage.
Support assembly processes by handling parts, assisting with welding preparations, and ensuring accurate placement of components.
Prepare steel for coatings and paint

Qualifications

Basic math skills and the ability to read blueprints or technical drawings are preferred.
Mechanical aptitude with familiarity in hand tools and power equipment.
Willingness to learn CNC programming, CNC operations, welding techniques, and other fabrication processes.
Ability to work safely around heavy machinery such as cranes, forklifts, CNC laser cutters, plasma cutters, and press brakes.
Strong work ethic with good communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.
Prior experience in manufacturing or steel fabrication is an asset but not required; training will be provided.
Must be physically capable of standing for extended periods and lifting heavy materials safely.
