Maple Villa is fully accredited by Accreditation Canada and has been providing quality resident and family-focused care since 1971. Our interdisciplinary team are committed about the care for our residents, staff, families and volunteers and are consistently reflecting on practices and areas of improvement to provide exceptional, individualized, culturally competent care to our residents and maintain a strong and dedicated health care team.
We are opening a new Home in January 2026 that will support 256 residents in our community! The new Maple Villa is located on Palladium Way in north Burlington.
Position Summary
Salary Starting Range RPN: $80,403.34
Salary Starting Range RN: $104,869.00
Reporting to the Director of Care - Clinical, the Associate Director of Care - Infection Prevention and Control, is accountable and responsible for providing infection and prevention control expertise and leadership in the implementation of program initiatives and deliverables; developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating infection control programs as well as building capacity internally and externally to detect and manage infection prevention and control (IPAC) issues while serving the needs of residents, families and colleagues. The role will ensure delivery of infection prevention and control education and auditing and will utilize relevant legislation and best practices. The incumbent will ensure that continuous quality improvement outcomes approved for the Home are met or exceeded, and demonstrate dedication to professional values and the mission, vision and values of the Home. Qualifications
● Completed post-secondary education in nursing as a registered practical nurse or registered nurse. Candidates must possess a current certificate of competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario
● Possess the qualification requirements to certify with the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology as required under the Fixing Long Term Care Act, 2021, ss. 79 and Ontario Regulation 246/22 (5)
● Completion of IPAC Canada endorsed course preferred. Must enroll post hire if not already completed
● Certification with CBIC-CIC or CBIC LTC-CIP (Long-Term Care Certification in Infection Prevention) is preferred. The successful incumbent will be required to successfully obtain, once eligibility criteria is met to certify
● Minimum of 2 years of relevant infection prevention and control related experience with a comprehensive understanding of IPAC practices and program service delivery
● Demonstrated skills in program planning, implementation, evaluation and ability to contribute to continuous quality improvement in relation to infection prevention and control
● 1 year of previous experience in long-term care or health care sector
● Knowledge of the Fixing Long Term Care Act, 2021 and its regulations is preferred
● Proficiency with PointClickCare (eHR) an asset
● Ability to conduct effective infection risk assessments, problem solving, and conflict resolution to respond to issues with tact, diplomacy and professionalism
● Must demonstrate an active interest in ongoing education
● Must be computer literate
● Must demonstrate strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills

Main Duties and Responsibilities
● Oversee the delivery of infection prevention and control education to all staff, caregivers, volunteers, visitors, and residents.
● Lead the Immunization and screening program for residents and immunization program for staff.
● Ensure screening measures are in place for residents and staff as directed.
● Help coordinate the ordering, inventory management, distribution and appropriate and safe use of PPE for the home.
● Participate in the annual review and evaluation of the IPAC Program plan.
● Screen and track antibiotic resistant organisms upon admission and readmission to the homes.
● Monitor N95 fit testing for all staff and ensures access to fit testing, when required
● Oversee and track the IPAC training and education program for staff and volunteers
● Audit daily and monthly screening results to determine whether any immediate action is required.
● Provide training to staff on how to monitor for the presence of infection in residents and ensure surveillance is performed by staff on every shift to identify cases of healthcare acquired infections, device-associated infections and antibiotic-resistant organisms
● Ensure symptoms indicating the presence of infection in residents are monitored
● Ensure symptoms are recorded and immediate action is taken to reduce transmission and isolate residents and place them in cohorts as required.
● Perform daily surveillance activities by collecting, analyzing and communicating epidemiological data.
● Complete audits of infection prevention and control practices in the home and demonstration of staff competency in these practices (ex. Hand hygiene, PPE selection, PPE donning/doffing). Address gaps or violations in protocols as required.
● Advise on IPAC practices to manage any outbreaks to minimize risk(s) to residents and staff
● Engage with public health and stakeholders on the outbreak response, when relevant, including when an outbreak has been declared.
● Analyze audit data collected to determine trends and potential risks.
● Responsible for monthly, quarterly and annual reporting of infection control data and activities.
● Responsible to lead the completion of the Infection Control Program Evaluation annually.
● Support departmental managers with implementation of required practices such as cleaning and disinfecting, food safety monitoring and equipment.
● Collaborate with IPAC community resources (ie. IPAC hub), at least annually, IPAC policies and procedures and ensure they are complete, accurate and align with evidence and with best practice.
● Act as the primary contact for Public Health inspections at the home.
● Provide regular communication for the staff, residents and families in the event of an outbreak.
● Help provide outbreak management training for staff (disinfecting products, high touch surfaces, PPE protocols, isolation requirements, cohorting etc.).
● Communicate risks and treatments for all residents within the home when infection is identified.
● Engage residents, families, staff and volunteers to promote an infection control culture.
● Ensure prompt reporting of reportable disease to Public Health, Ministry of Labour, and the MLTC.
● Report immunization rates of staff and residents as required.
● Notify the Home’s leadership team of risks, declared outbreaks and appropriate mitigation measures and precautions required to respond to incidents of infection.
● Regularly engage with the Resident’s Council and Family Council to seek advice on IPAC measures and their impacts on residents and families/caregivers and to evaluate the IPAC program and quality activities.
● Conduct debrief sessions with the outbreak management team following the resolution of an outbreak to assess IPAC practices that were effective and ineffective in the management of the outbreak
