Description

We're hiring full-time B Pressure Welders at CESSCO Fabrication & Engineering in our pressure vessel fabrication shop in Edmonton, AB, for both day shifts and night shifts. B Pressure Welders are responsible for all types of productions processes, welds, coupons, procedure development and require basic knowledge of applicable construction codes that govern their work. They are also responsible to follow safety practices and internal standards for quality and productivity. Part of your responsibilities in this role would include ensuring you are trained in, follow, and support the enforcement of the safety programs governing activities in all fabrication shops. Additionally, you must immediately report defective equipment or conditions misaligned with safety standards to a supervisor, including any which are quickly and easily corrected. You should have the knowledge of the correct consumable, flux, preheat, and other information as required prior to commencing any welding operations and be able to ensure weld size, quality, and required markings are applied to completed or partially completed welds. Reporting any issues with welding consumables is also part of the responsibilities of this role. B Pressure Welders are required to read and interpret drawings and documents, such as welding procedures, standards, specifications, purchase orders, and other documents related to fabrication requirements as well as apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. In this role, you should be able to sketch basic images to assist in communication and have excellent communication skills, coordinating with clients, inspectors, and team members. You must have a High School Diploma as well as trade certification in welding, including a valid Alberta "B" Pressure Certificate of C Competency or Machine Operator Certificate of Competency. Additionally, we would like to see candidates with current or previous performance qualifications in most welding processes and at least 5 years' previous experience, preferably. There is a physical component to this position that requires manual dexterity and the ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time. Frequent climbing, bending, stooping, and crawling is also a part of this job. You will need the visual acuity to read printed and electronic documents as well as the hearing capacity to receive, perceive, and react to common construction environment auditory stimuli. You will also need to be able to lift and exert force of up to 10 lbs frequently and 50 lbs occasionally. As a B Pressure Welder, you will be eligible for benefits after 90 days of work. These positions have a $44- $47 hourly wage and a 40-hour work week that can include day shifts and night shifts. Any night shifts also pay a premium of $2/hour on top of your standard wage. Duties

Essential Responsibilities

Ensure you are trained in, follow and support enforcement of safety programs governing activities in all fabrication shops.
Ensure the correct application of welding specifications and tolerances to all shop fabrications.
Ensure knowledge of the correct consumable, flux, preheat and other information as required prior to commencing any welding operations
Ensure weld size, quality and required markings (STAMPING) are applied to all completed or partially completed welds.
Immediately report any defective equipment or safety condition to a supervisor including those which are quickly and easily corrected by them.
Immediately reports any issues with welding consumables.
Ensure you work area is tidy before and after your tasks.
Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.

Supervisory Responsibilities

May occasionally provide direction and supervision to apprentices as directed.
Is obligated to observe and act on Safety.

Qualifications

The position requires trade certification in Welding. Essential qualifications includes a sound knowledge base in drawing interpretation, specification reading, interpretation and application and includes a background in all welding processes, material handling, forming, burning, rigging, layout and fitting operations as a minimum. The position requires ongoing training and qualification with CESSCO welding procedures, safety policies, quality control, productivity, and other as required. Required and/or Developed Skills

Ability to read and interpret drawings and documents such as welding procedures, standards and specifications, purchase orders, terms and conditions and other documents related to fabrication requirements.
Ability to interpret and apply safety and other internal policies to any situation.
Ability to speak effectively to clients, inspectors, and production team members.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to sketch basic images as a part of communicating to others.
Ability to interpret and understand a variety of instructions in written, oral or drawing form.
Ability to think and react quickly in a highly dynamic environment.
Ability to multitask and remain highly organized.

Physical Requirements

Manual dexterity, sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time.
Frequent climbing stairs / ladders, bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, reaching, and crouching.
Occasional work on ladders, scaffolding, or high structures.
Visual acuity to read printed and electronic documents.
Hearing capacity to receive, perceive, and react to common construction environment auditory stimuli.
Lifting and/or exerting of force up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds of lifting / force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of lifting/force constantly to move objects.
Frequent operation of mobile equipment.

Education

High School Diploma.
Trade Certification in Welding including a valid Alberta “B” Pressure Certificate of Competency or Machine Operator Certificate of Competency. Other levels of certification may be permitted on a case by case basis IE; “C” pressure.
Performance qualifications (current or previous) in most welding processes.

Work Environment

The working environment is heavy industrial.
Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments with frequent exposure to noise, dust, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, moving objects, sharp edges, and all types of weather and temperature conditions.
The employee is routinely required to work in confined spaces, at heights and in extreme temperature conditions.
Wearing and use of proper personal protective equipment is required.
