Alberta School of Indian Music and Performing Arts is a professional school of Indian (primarily) and South Asian (in general) music and performing arts, based in Edmonton, AB. The school offers systematic, rigorous, and specialized high-quality Indian and South Asian music and performing arts instruction to students of all ages and skill levels. Role Responsibilities
The Alberta School of Indian Music and Performing Arts is looking for a highly motivated individual to be a part of their team! This role is in-person full-time and part-time.
Reporting to the Director, the Receptionist/Administrative Support plays a key role in supporting the seamless operations of the school. To succeed in this role, you will be required to have excellent attendance and reliability, high level of professionalism, flexibility, ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, and a high attention to detail. Candidates must have a genuine interest in or knowledge of the Indian and South Asian music and performing arts culture.
This is a public facing role and requires a cheerful demeanor, a presentable apperance, a respectful manner, strong communication skills, and the ability to remain professional when dealing with students, parents, and potential clients.
The school organizes frequent events such as concerts, workshops, music and performing arts camps, and promotional campaigns. The candidate is required to manage school's social media channels, plan and schedule promotional posts, capture event photos and videos, edit videos into a wide variety of content forms, create high-quality graphic content, and bring innovative ideas for school's promotion. The candidate must have a deep understanding and strong knowledge of graphic design platforms (Adobe, Canva), video and photo editing softwares, digital marketing tools, AI-powered tools, and emerging technologies.
Evenings and weekends are the busiest times in the school. The candidate must be available to work in the evenings and weekends as well as in school's special events (concerts, recitals, workshops).

The primary responsibilities for the Receptionist/Administrative Support include, but are not limited to:
Student & Class Management:
- Greet, welcome, and direct visitors, students, and parents cheerfully, respectfully, and professionally.
- Answer calls, emails, and in-person inquiries from new and current students and parents about music and dance classes in a professional and respectful manner.
- Assist new students and parents in registering for classes and provide a clear understanding of school/class policies and expectations.
- Coordinate and schedule classes and meetings as needed.
- Help music instructors smoothly transition students between lessons.
Office & Operations:
- Manage all incoming mail, emails, and phone calls, and communicate important messages to the Director.
- Process payment transactions, issue receipts, and ensure accurate filing and data entry.
- Ensure maintenance of a well-kept and professional looking reception and entire office area.
- Organize classrooms, supplies, and instruments.
- Replenish supplies and instruments as needed and/or directed by the Director.
Events & Promotion:
- Manage school's social media channels and plan and schedule promotional posts.
- Capture event photos and videos and edit videos into a wide variety of content forms.
- Create high-quality graphic content.
- Bring innovative ideas for school's promotion.
- Work in a high-volume, demanding environment specifically during school's concerts and recitals, and manage competing priorities in tight timelines.
- Work closely with the Director to plan and organize student concerts, recitals, and workshops.
- Contact sponsors and coordinate advertising for concerts and other school promotions.
Experience and Skills:
- Experience in office reception and/or administrative experience.
- Exceptional ability to work independently and efficiently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a friendly and professional demeanor.
- Experience working with children and people from diverse backgrounds is required.
- Proficient in computer skills in a desktop environment, including the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google applications, and music studio management software.
- Proven experience planning and managing social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube, as well as scheduling content using social media management tools.
- Experience filming and editing short-form video for social media (e.g., Reels, TikTok, Shorts).
- Basic photography and photo editing skills.
- Proficiency with creative tools for static and video content and ads, such as Canva, Adobe, or similar platforms.
- Demonstrate conflict resolution skills.
Assets:
- Knowledge of Hindi, Gujarati, Nepalese, and/or other South Asian languages.
- Knowledge of Indian and/or South Asian music culture and musical terms.
- Training and performance experience in Indian music and performing arts and/or the music and performing arts of the Indian Subcontinent.
- Experience working in arts, entertainment, or live events is an asset.
- Demonstrated portfolio of social media campaigns or digital content.
Additional Requirements
As this position requires dealing with children, a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check are mandatory if selected for the position. The successful candidate will be subject to a three month probation period.
Compensation
Your salary will be commensurate with experience and skills.
