About Braiding Knowledges Canada
Braiding Knowledges Canada (BKC) is a not-for-profit corporation established in 2019, continuing the groundbreaking work of the Canadian Mountain Network (CMN) (2019-2024) while broadening its impact beyond Canada's mountain landscapes.
The corporation is supported by a five-year grant from the Government of Canada’s Strategic Science Fund Program (2024-2029).
Our Goal: Braiding Knowledges Canada advances Reconciliation through Research by enhancing the influence of self-determined, place-based, and co-produced knowledge within Canada’s science culture such that, over time and on a path towards reconciliation, Indigenous and local knowledge approaches equitably contribute to public policy, decision-making, and the advancement of federal science priorities.
The Role
The Knowledge Mobilization Manager oversees a team of diverse knowledge mobilization experts and is responsible for developing, overseeing, and managing strategies and practices to effectively disseminate organizational knowledge, research findings, and innovations to a network of diverse internal and external stakeholders, including national and international networks. This role is accountable
for building and maintaining relationships with internal and external partners, coordinating knowledge transfer activities, events, communications, and ensuring information generated within the organization is shared and used to drive positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Works collaboratively with the Executive Director to develop short-term and long-term plans.
- Supports budget and administrative planning for large, diverse knowledge mobilization and communication activities.
- Understands the scope, objectives, and deliverables and creates processes, procedures, or tools to support the group’s achievements.
- Works with the BKC’s Management Team to coordinate and oversee all BKC knowledge mobilization activities. This includes working with the Finance partners to oversee all financial accountabilities related to BKC knowledge mobilization activities.
- Develops strategies and proposals for budget allocations/reallocations and for the distribution of resources to support area priorities. Monitors and oversees the purchase of services, equipment and supplies, including large, multi-year contracts with event planners, website developers, contact management service providers, specialist graphic designers and videographers, as well as other knowledge mobilization specialists. Evaluates and makes appropriate changes to current business processes to ensure operational and financial efficiencies.
- Contributes to creating an environment where diverse ideas, perspectives, and achievements are recognized, rewarded, and celebrated.
- Explores and prepares knowledge mobilization sections for grant applications and reports.
- Organizes and oversees research project symposia, lectures, seminars and meetings. Manages BKC representation at national conferences.
- Oversees knowledge mobilization and communications activities for BKC.
- Builds and maintains relationships/sponsorship with internal and external networks and partners, including collaborators, funding agencies, and suppliers.
- Location: Hybrid, with preference for a candidate willing to travel to Edmonton when required.

Fall (Oct 2026 - Jan 2027)
- Onboarding & transition activities
- Coordinate post-publication dissemination and promotion of the BKC Annual Report, including monitoring reach, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge uptake.
- Implementation and adaptation of the communication marketing strategy
- Provide leadership to the BKC communications team, ensuring timely, high-quality outputs through clear guidance, feedback, and consistent adherence to brand standards.
Winter (Jan 2027-March 2027)
- Work alongside colleagues on the production and completion of the FY2027-28 BKC Corporate Plan.
- Coordinate the production and dissemination of new public-facing knowledge products and publications.
- Coordinate communications and knowledge mobilization activities for the various conferences, including promotion, booth coordination, and stakeholder management. *attendance may be required
- Supporting the ED and research team with communications and public relations activities for the BKC 2.0 working group in preparing an LOI/full submission for renewed funding for BKC.
- Implementation and adaptation of the communication marketing strategy
- Provide leadership to the BKC communications team, ensuring timely, high-quality outputs through clear guidance, feedback, and consistent adherence to brand standards.
- Maintain a publication schedule for newsletters, website stories, and social media campaigns.
Spring (April 2027-June 2027)
- Supporting the ED and research team with communications and public relations activities for the BKC 2.0 working group in preparing an LOI/full submission for renewed funding for BKC.
- Coordinate communications and knowledge mobilization activities for the various conferences, including promotion, booth coordination, and stakeholder management. *Attendance may be required
- Provide leadership to the BKC communications team, ensuring timely, high-quality outputs through clear guidance, feedback, and consistent adherence to brand standards.
- Lead development of seasonal communications campaigns that increase awareness of BKC research, partnerships, and impact.
- Maintain a publication schedule for newsletters, website stories, and social media campaigns.
- Supporting writing the Annual Report (SSF)
- Annual Communications Report including all relevant KPI’s for 2026
Summer (July 2027-Sept 2027)
- Supporting writing the Annual Report (SSF)Develop and implement a comprehensive annual communications plan aligned with organizational priorities to achieve targets. (Spring/Summer 2026)
- Supporting the ED and research team with communications and public relations activities for the BKC 2.0 working group in preparing an LOI/full submission for renewed funding for BKC.
- Maintain a publication schedule for newsletters, website stories, and social media campaigns.
- Coordinate post-publication dissemination and promotion of the BKC Annual Report, including monitoring reach, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge uptake.
Fall (October 2027)
- Off-boarding/transition tasks unless extension is determined
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., communications, knowledge management, business, social sciences) is required.
- Minimum of 7 years in a professional communications role.
- Experience with the following communications tools is an asset: Google Tools, WordPress, HubSpot, and/or Google Analytics.
- Superior writing skills and a demonstrated ability to produce written material for multiple media forms (web, print).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with constantly shifting priorities.
- Comfortable with problem-solving and decision-making, and capable of working independently on projects when required.
- Experience in event planning and implementation is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with various communication channels and technologies for knowledge dissemination.
- Analytical skills to assess the impact of communication initiatives and adjust strategies accordingly.
- Experience working in knowledge user sectors, such as Indigenous organizations, industry, government, or the not-for-profit sectors.
- Experience leading and managing a multidisciplinary team with diverse roles and varying levels of experience.
