Job Description
The Stair Builder is responsible for the accurate construction and assembly of stair systems, winders and landings. This role involves working with various woodworking tools and machinery to cut, shape, and assemble materials according to design specifications. The assembler must be able to interpret blueprints, work efficiently in a team, and meet high standards for quality and craftsmanship. A background in carpentry or residential construction is beneficial, but a strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail are essential for success in this position.
Responsibilities
The Stair Assembler will report to the Stair Department Supervisor. Specific duties include but are not limited to:
· Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine stair specifications.
· Measure, mark, and verify materials to ensure accurate cuts and assembly.
· Cut and shape wood using hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machinery, including saws, pneumatic nailers, staplers, and other production equipment.
· Assemble stair components, including treads, risers, stringers, winders, and landings, according to design specifications.
· Adjust machinery settings, such as stops, rollers, and guide heights, to produce precise cuts and quality finishes.
· Attach necessary guides, fixtures, or fittings to machines using clamps, bolts, or other fastening methods.
· Check measurements, angles, and dimensions throughout the assembly process to ensure accuracy and adherence to design specifications.
· Inspect completed stair assemblies to ensure compliance with company quality standards and applicable safety requirements.
· Make adjustments or corrections as needed to maintain product quality and craftsmanship.
· Safely handle, move, and stage materials and completed stair assemblies throughout the production process.
· Clean and maintain tools, machinery, and work areas to promote safe and efficient operations.
· Report equipment malfunctions, material defects, or production issues to the supervisor.
· Work collaboratively with team members to meet daily production schedules and departmental goals.
· Assist with packaging, labeling, and preparing completed stair systems for shipment as required.
· Follow all company safety policies and procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
· Carry out other responsibilities as reasonably assigned to support production and operational requirements.
Qualifications & Skills
· Experience in carpentry, woodworking, stair fabrication, framing, cabinet making, or residential construction is considered an asset but is not required.
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
· Proficient with hand tools and woodworking machines (e.g., saws, planers, nail guns).
· Strong math and measurement skills for material estimation and precision cuts.
· Physically fit and capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials weighing up to 100 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation.
· Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality craftsmanship.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
· Ability to adapt to changing production schedules, priorities, and operational requirements.
Working Conditions
The incumbent will work in a production shop environment with exposure to dust, wood particles, and loud machinery. The role involves hands-on use of tools and equipment and frequent interaction with other team members on the floor. While work is performed indoors in a manufacturing setting, temperatures within the facility may fluctuate seasonally. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
Physical Requirements
The incumbent must be able to stand for long periods, lift up to 100 lbs, and perform repetitive motions such as cutting, sanding, and assembling. The role requires bending, twisting, and occasionally stepping on and off worktables, platforms, or workstations while following established safety procedures. A strong level of manual dexterity and physical stamina is necessary.
