George A. Wright, a Tessera Group Company, has been building a tradition of quality and customer service in the food, pharmaceutical and consumer goods manufacturing industries since 1894. We design, manufacture, and install all kinds of material handling equipment in manufacturing facilities throughout the GTA and South-Central Ontario.
We are currently seeking an experienced Fitter/Welder to join our team. This is a hands-on role suited for someone with strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced fabrication environment.
Please note, this position is currently based out of our head office and production shop at 21 State Crown Boulevard, Scarborough ON M1V 4B1, however we will be relocating to a new facility in Newmarket, ON in Spring 2026.

Key Responsibilities:
- Fit and assemble structural steel components according to engineering drawings and specifications
- Perform TIG/MIG welding to CWB standards on a variety of steel structures
- Verify dimensions and tolerances using measuring tools (tape measure, square, calipers, etc.)
- Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and work orders
- Set up and use jigs and fixtures to ensure accurate fit-up
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and quality control throughout the fabrication process
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production deadlines
Qualifications and Skills:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in fitting and welding structural steel assemblies
- Valid CWB welding certifications (TIG required; MIG an asset)
- Strong blueprint reading and layout skills
- Excellent understanding of welding symbols, tolerances, and structural standards
- Ability to use a wide range of hand and power tools safely and effectively
- Strong attention to detail and quality
- Good physical condition – able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and work in a physically demanding environment
- Reliable, safety-conscious, and self-motivated
Please Note: a welding dexterity test will be required at time of interview.
Working Conditions:
- Fabrication shop environment with potential exposure to heat, sparks, and noise.
- Our facility operates Monday to Friday, from 7:00am to 3:30pm. Potential for overtime is based on project demand.
- Safety is our highest priority, and safety procedures and guidelines must be adhered to at all times. This includes wearing personal protective equipment, such as eye protection, hearing protection, and safety shoes.
