Occupational Therapist, ASaP/ICC

Part time, 28.00 hours per week

About Kids Included:Kids Included (formerly GRIT) has been providing inclusive early childhood services since 1982. Kids Included is a dynamic organization whose mission is to enhance the meaningful inclusion and participation of all children in everyday activities.

About Inclusive Child Care (ICC):Our Inclusive Child Care (ICC) program provides resources and supports to licensed early learning and child care programs across Alberta to successfully include children who have extra support needs. Inclusive Child Care provides short-term intensive support (six months) for licensed ELCC programs such as centre based child cares, family day homes, preschools, and out of school care within Edmonton and its surrounding areas as well as the western portion of the North Central region of Alberta.

About Access Support and Participation (ASaP): Through ASaP, we partner with licensed child care programs across Alberta. This includes both center-based care and family day homes. Once enrolled, teams engage in professional learning, coaching and leadership development to create high-quality, inclusive environments for all children. ASaP is a long-term learning partnership between Kids Included and licensed childcare programs that lasts up to two years, with continuing support for alumni after that.

About the Position: The Occupational Therapist will apply evidence-based coaching and consultation approaches to support children’s participation and engagement within early learning environments. This includes observing and assessing strengths and needs, contributing to the development of child- and educator-focused goals, and providing targeted consultation to educators, directors, coaches, and families. The role involves participating in joint visits and collaborating closely with ASaP/ICC teams and early learning and child care programs to ensure coordinated, inclusive supports.

In this role, you will actively engage in team meetings, training, and ongoing communication to promote effective collaboration. You will facilitate professional learning opportunities to build the capacity of educators and coaches, provide clear documentation including visit notes, and apply discipline-specific assessment and intervention strategies. Additional responsibilities include supporting referrals, liaising with community agencies, contributing to research and program evaluation, and maintaining a commitment to continuous professional development.

Job Requirements:

Registration with Alberta’s College of Occupational Therapy (ACOT)
Education: Bachelor’s or Master's degree in occupational therapy
Minimum of five years' experience in Occupational Therapy, preferably with pediatric experience.
Demonstrated early childhood learning and development knowledge
Proficient in the use of technology for data collection, meetings and/or distance consultation, scheduling, reporting, and collaborating.
Willing to travel throughout Alberta as needed
Own reliable vehicle and required business insurance coverage
Maintain clear Police information check with Vulnerable Sector, and Children’s Invention Record Check
Second language proficiency is an asset (French, or other)

Compensation: Kids included offers a comprehensive compensation package that includes Group Benefits, up to 6% Group RSP matching, Telus Health Employee Assistance Program, and three weeks of paid vacation to start. The hourly rate for this position ranges from $44.93- $59.68, based on experience and education. The role is 28.00 hours per week.

Physical, Emotional and Psychological Demands include:

Frequent movement across early learning and childcare environments, including travel, with extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, and working in varied settings (e.g., classrooms, outdoor and community spaces).
Ability to engage physically with children through floor-level activities (e.g., kneeling, crouching) and provide occasional lifting or physical support in accordance with safe practices.
Sustained visual, auditory, and fine motor focus required for observation, assessment, documentation, and use of therapeutic tools in dynamic, often noisy environments.
Strong interpersonal and emotional skills to manage sensitive situations with families, educators, and team members using professionalism, empathy, and cultural responsiveness.
Effective collaboration within interdisciplinary teams, including providing coaching, constructive feedback, and navigating conflict or differing perspectives.
Ability to manage competing priorities, workload demands, and deadlines while adapting to evolving program needs and service models.
