About the Student Wellness and Equitable Learning Department at Humber:
The Student Wellness and Equitable Learning (SWEL) department is dedicated to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where every student can thrive. The cross-functional team includes Student Connection and Community Care, Residence Life and Education, Accessible Learning Services, Mental Health Services, Clinical Services, and Health Promotion. The SWEL team offer services across all Humber Polytechnic/University of Guelph-Humber campuses.
About the Residence Standards and Care Advisor Role:
Reporting to the Manager, Student Connection and Community Care (SCCC), the Residence Standards and Care Advisor plays a vital role in fostering a respectful, inclusive, and supportive student environment. This position integrates the implementation of the Code of Student Community Standards (CSCS), student support, wellness initiatives, and strategic leadership to promote student success and accountability in Humber Residences. The incumbent leads explorations, educates the Residence community, and collaborates across departments to ensure a safe and thriving student experience and to provide holistic support to students living in Residence.
Working in collaboration with the Office of Student Community Standards (OSCS), the Advisor oversees the community standards process within Humber Residences to promote safety, accountability, and student success. The Advisor addresses student behaviour through restorative, educational, and/or formal conduct processes, applying an educative and developmental approach grounded in principles of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EDIB). The incumbent is responsible for triaging and coordinating support during critical incidents involving Residence students and providing warm referrals to appropriate on- and off-campus resources. Central to this position is fostering student learning and development, good citizenship, and compassionate accountability.
The incumbent provides ongoing support to students living in Residence, as well as guidance and support to Residence Life Staff to facilitate the resolution of complex issues (e.g., mental health, suicide ideation, sexual and gender-based violence, etc.).
The incumbent is an active member of the CARE team (Coordinate, Assess, Respond, and Educate), an interdisciplinary team that meets regularly and provides institution-wide response to addressing challenging and complex issues and critical student behavior. Functions supporting CARE include gathering relevant case information, communicating and liaising with Residence staff, Faculties and other departments about specific students of concern, responding to initial inquiries about supporting students who may be demonstrating concerning behavior, and formulating case planning and management with students. The Advisor will also be the primary intake for all Residence student disclosures of sexual violence. This includes connecting with the survivor and/or respondent to triage appropriate services both on and off campus. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining highly sensitive and confidential databases and documentation to ensure proper record keeping, file retention, and process is being followed.

Education
4-year degree in relevant field.
Experience/Skills
Minimum 5 years of experience working in a post-secondary environment, 3 years in a residence setting. Equivalent combination of education, professional development/training, and experience will be considered.
Experience with investigation and interviewing techniques, including adjudication under student community standards.
Knowledge of due process, student rights and responsibilities, and current trends in student behavior in post-secondary settings.
Knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and relevant adjudication procedures.
Training in mediation, conflict resolution, and restorative justice principles and practices.
Strong knowledge and application of intersectional, feminist, anti-oppressive, and anti-racist frameworks, particularly in relation to sexual violence, intimate partner violence, and family violence.
Demonstrated experience with survivor-centered and trauma-informed approaches, especially in investigations.
Training in Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging, with understanding of how equity issues intersect with student behavior and the CSCS.
Experience working in a residence setting at a post-secondary institution (3 years).
Familiarity with administrative practices in post-secondary environments.
Experience developing and delivering training programs and educational materials.
Demonstrated experience with non-clinical case management strategies supporting individuals with complex needs (e.g., mental health, behavior management, food insecurity, academic concerns).
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation and workshop delivery.
Excellent ability to read, comprehend, write, and speak English.
Strong interpersonal, client service, negotiation, and relationship-building skills across diverse stakeholders.
Ability to engage with students, staff, faculty, and external partners with diplomacy and discretion.
Ability to work in a team environment, including with immediate supervisor and cross-functional colleagues.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and maintain confidentiality.
Strong analytical, research, and creative problem-solving skills.
Self-directed with initiative and adaptability in high-pressure or evolving situations.
Proven expertise in Microsoft 365, Advocate Case Management Software, StarRez, Banner SIS, Resolver, and website/content management.
Supervisory experience and program/activity development are considered an asset.
Adhere to all Collective Agreements, Terms and Conditions of Employment for Administrative Staff, internal policies/practices, and government regulations and Humber wide requirements.
