Central Telecom Inc. is accepting applications for the position of Fiber Optic Technician. We hire ongoing and experienced technicians are encouraged to apply - we pay top wages for candidates with splicing and testing experience and your starting wage will depend on your skills and experience.
We are willing to train applicants with transferable skills in mechanics, electrical, etc. who have some related hands-on outside plant industry experience in the telecommunications industry, and the ability to learn fiber optic splicing. We will consider applicants:
- with at least 1 year of experience working in the telecom servicing/installation industry. This is NOT an IT position.
- graduates of the Red River College Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering programs
- with hands-on experience in a related field such as (mechanic, electrical), who are interested in pursuing a career in Fiber Optics
We will certify and provide all occupational health and safety training to the right candidate(s) (Confined Space, ladder safety, electrical safety, etc).
This position is based out of our office in WINNIPEG, and applicants must live in Winnipeg or within a reasonable commuting distance as you will report to the shop every morning to meet with the team. Applicants MUST have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record as you will be operating a company vehicle.

Responsibilities:
- Communicate with Supervisor and Dispatch on work status
- Splicing, testing and troubleshooting of fiber sites and links
- Documenting and reporting on work completed
- Maintaining project and safety documentation
- Inspecting fiber routes and hub sites as preventative maintenance
- Ensuring all attended sites are clearly labeled
- Locating faults and mobilizing resources within minimal time to counter fault
The position of Fiber Optic Technician can be physically demanding and requires an individual who is capable of the following:
- Able to perform overhead lifting, climbing, and carrying ladders with a weight of minimum 25lbs to 75lbs
- Able to work in confined spaces
- Able to work in all weather conditions
- Walking, climbing, kneeling and crouching
- Able to work in tight spaces such as the crawl space of a house
- Some out of town work may be required
- Due to safety reasons maximum body weight restriction must not exceed 350 pounds
Additionally we require:
- Valid driver's license with 2 years of driving experience and a good driving record (you will be driving a company vehicle)
- Ability to drive a company vehicle between the warehouse and worksites in a safe and courteous manner
- Good written and verbal communication skills
