Full job description

Industrial Plankton designs and manufactures high-tech algae bioreactors used worldwide in aquaculture, biotechnology, and research. Our work supports global food security and helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions through innovative biotechnology solutions. We’re a curious, hands-on team that values learning, problem-solving, and doing meaningful work.

We are seeking an organized and detail-oriented Accounts Payable Coordinator to join a collaborative and fast-paced team environment. Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role will take ownership of full-cycle accounts payable and bi-weekly payroll while contributing to the smooth day-to-day operations of the accounting function.

What You’ll Be Doing:

You’ll play a key role in the day-to-day accounting operations, managing both accounts payable and payroll responsibilities while helping ensure accuracy, efficiency, and strong internal processes across the finance team.

Manage full-cycle accounts payable including invoice coding, approvals, and data entry

Prepare and process vendor payments including EFTs and wire transfers

Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner

Maintain organized and accurate AP records

Assist with employee expense reporting and credit card reconciliations

Process bi-weekly payroll for approximately 30 employees using a third-party payroll platform

Ensure payroll compliance with CRA regulations, Employment Standards, and company policies

Manage payroll deductions, remittances, and benefits administration

Prepare T4s, ROEs, and year-end payroll reportingMaintain accurate employee payroll records and respond to payroll inquiries

Assist with month-end close and account reconciliations

Support year-end processes and reporting requirements

Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies

Provide additional accounting and administrative support as required

What You Bring:

2–5 years of experience in Accounts Payable

Experience processing payroll within a Canadian environment is an asset

Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines

Proficiency with accounting and payroll software platforms

Intermediate Excel and/or Google Sheets skills

Strong communication and organizational abilities

Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion

Self-motivated with a proactive and team-oriented approach

Experience with Xero accounting software is considered an asset

Experience with Payworks payroll software is considered an asset

Previous experience working within a small-to-medium-sized business environment is preferred

Exposure to month-end accounting processes would be beneficial

Experience working in a paperless office environment is considered an asset
