- This role currently involves overtime hours as we build up our floor team, paid according to Ontario employment standards. Reducing overtime is a key goal as our team grows.

WHAT THIS ROLE IS REALLY ABOUT

1. TRAINING AND BUILDING OUR TEAM
- Porter's is in the middle of a big hiring push, and training and team management skills are critical. We need someone who genuinely enjoys teaching and is good at explaining things clearly, someone who can bring new people along from their first day on the floor to being confident, capable members of the team. You should be comfortable putting real training tools in place and using systems that track people's progress along the way, not just running new hires through onboarding and hoping it sticks.
2. READING SHOP DRAWINGS AND BUILDING TO SPEC
- You'll be working directly from shop drawings to adjust our precast moulds on the plant floor, so the right products get built correctly. As supervisor, you are responsible for checking that moulds have been set up correctly before concrete is poured, so this role requires strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and mathematics skills in relation to construction. The classic saying "measure twice, pour once" applies here. This is a hands-on, day-to-day part of the job, not a nice-to-have.
3. COMFORTABLE IN A FAST-PACED ENVIRONMENT
- Things move quickly at Porter's, and you'll be the connector between the shop floor workers, ownership, other managers, and the office. You need to be comfortable managing several relationships and priorities at once and staying clear-headed and professional even when the day gets busy. Our goal is to run things as a well-oiled machine, but we all know that surprises do happen, and this person is responsible for solving problems in a calm and collected way.

- Porter's has been doing this a long time, and there's real value in the way things are already done here. We're looking for someone who's comfortable following established procedures, understands why consistency matters on a production floor, and leads by example rather than challenging every process along the way. We genuinely value input and fresh ideas, we just want to see that you've fully learned and can demonstrate our processes first, before you start looking to change them.
WHAT YOU'LL DO DAY TO DAY
Leading and Developing the Floor Team
- Train, coach, and supervise production workers, with a strong focus on developing new hires as the team grows
- Help develop and implement new training and team organization structures to improve efficiency
- Lead daily production meetings and hold regular check-ins with team leads
- Coach team leads on how to run their own work crew effectively to reach daily production goals
- Manage team leads and production workers to follow procedures such as maintaining an organized work area, following operating and safety procedures, and completing their training tools
- Administer progressive discipline fairly and effectively when it's needed
- Build and maintain an open, respectful working relationship with everyone on the floor
Production, Quality, and Safety
- Read and interpret shop drawings to guide adjustments to precast moulds and once trained fully, check the work of team leads throughout the entire shop floor for accuracy before concrete is poured
- Supervise daily operations with a safety-first approach, working toward a "Zero" safety performance
- Track customer order priorities using our tracking tools to ensure products are manufactured on time and to specification
- Work with the Quality Control team to close the loop on quality issues and prevent repeat problems
- Evaluate and maintain concrete mix design for wet cast products
- Maintain the highest practical housekeeping standard across the plant
Process, Procedure, and Continuous Improvement
- Follow and reinforce Porter's established processes and procedures for production
- Support continuous improvement in production costs and efficiency, building on what already works rather than starting over
- Monitor targets daily and apply corrective action when needed
- Coordinate ordering to maintain appropriate raw material levels
- Review costing allocations to ensure accuracy
Relationships and Communication
- Work closely with ownership, plant leadership, quality control and the office team on day-to-day operations
- Work with management to maintain standards required by industry inspection officials
- Coordinate with purchasing, sales, engineering, and shipping as needed
- Step in directly on the floor when labour or knowledge gaps require it
WHAT YOU BRING / EXPERIENCE
- Experience supervising or leading a production team, ideally in a manufacturing, precast, or concrete environment
- Proficiency reading shop drawings and building to specification
- A genuine interest in coaching and developing people; experience with training tools or progress-tracking systems is an asset
- Patience, a level head, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage relationships across ownership, management, and the office
- A safety-first mindset and respect for established procedures
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Porter's ownership is hands-on and present on the shop floor daily, so you'll work closely with ownership and plant leadership on a regular basis. You'll lead and support our team leads and production workers directly, and coordinate regularly with the office, purchasing, sales, engineering, and shipping.
ABOUT PORTERS
Porter's Infrastructure Products has been manufacturing precast concrete products for over 50 years. Our Dresden plant has been part of that story for the last 25, and it's currently preparing for an exciting stretch of growth. Our facility already runs on overhead cranes, heavy machinery, and moulds, and with the recent addition of a state-of-the-art concrete batching system on site, we can now mix our own concrete product in-house rather than relying on outside suppliers. It's a strong advantage, and it means more opportunity, more growth, and better lives for the people on our team.
Our floor team needs to grow significantly in the coming months, and that's exactly where this role comes in. We are looking for a Production Supervisor to grow along with us.
