Position Overview
The Greenhouse Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation, monitoring, and coordination of all greenhouse systems and infrastructure within a commercial indoor cannabis cultivation facility. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical knowledge of greenhouse environmental, irrigation, fertigation, lighting, climate control, and automation systems.
The successful candidate will be comfortable operating and troubleshooting greenhouse systems, identifying issues before they impact production, assisting with preventative maintenance and repairs, and working closely with cultivation and maintenance teams to ensure the facility operates safely, efficiently, and consistently.
Previous experience using Argus greenhouse control software is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operation of all greenhouse systems, equipment, and environmental controls.
- Operate and monitor Argus greenhouse control software and other facility management systems.
- Monitor and adjust temperature, humidity, CO₂, lighting, ventilation, irrigation, fertigation, heating, cooling, and other environmental parameters.
- Ensure greenhouse systems are operating within established production specifications.
- Monitor system data and identify trends, irregularities, or potential equipment failures.
- Make timely adjustments to environmental settings based on crop requirements and production schedules.
- Maintain accurate operational records, system logs, and documentation.
- Assist with the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of greenhouse systems, equipment, and tools.
- Conduct routine inspections to identify mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, irrigation, environmental, or automation issues.
- Perform preventative maintenance and assist with scheduled servicing of greenhouse infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot pumps, valves, irrigation lines, sensors, fans, heaters, cooling systems, lighting, controllers, and other equipment.
- Work with internal maintenance staff and external contractors when specialized repairs are required.
- Maintain an organized inventory of tools, spare parts, and maintenance supplies.
- Respond quickly to system failures or environmental issues to minimize impact on the crop.
- Assist with irrigation scheduling and adjustments based on crop requirements and environmental
- Identify and resolve irrigation inconsistencies, leaks, blockages, pressure issues, and equipment failures.
- Assist with cleaning, calibration, and preventative maintenance of irrigation equipment.
- Work closely with Cultivation and Crop Care teams to ensure greenhouse conditions support crop health, quality, and yield.
- Identify environmental or equipment issues that may negatively affect plant health and communicate concerns to management.
- Support production teams during crop transitions, facility changes, and environmental adjustments.
- Assist with optimizing greenhouse conditions and systems to improve efficiency and production outcomes.
- Provide technical guidance and support to greenhouse staff.
- Train employees on the proper operation of greenhouse systems, tools, and equipment.
- Ensure staff understand and follow established operating procedures and safety requirements.
- Coordinate daily operational priorities and communicate system-related issues to relevant departments.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, cleanliness, and preventative maintenance.
- Follow all applicable Canadian cannabis regulations, company SOPs, workplace health and safety requirements, and facility security procedures.
- Ensure greenhouse systems and equipment are operated safely and maintained according to established standards.
- Maintain required operational, maintenance, and compliance documentation.
- Ensure tools, equipment, and work areas are kept clean, organized, and safe.
- Properly handle fertilizers, cleaning products, and other approved cultivation inputs.
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience operating Argus greenhouse control software is required.
- 3+ years of experience working in commercial greenhouse, controlled-environment agriculture, horticulture, cannabis cultivation, or a similar production environment.
- Previous greenhouse management, supervisory, or lead experience strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of greenhouse environmental control systems and automation.
- Hands-on experience with irrigation and fertigation systems.
- Working knowledge of heating, cooling, ventilation, humidity control, lighting, CO₂, pumps, valves, sensors, and environmental controllers.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and preventative maintenance skills.
- Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and basic maintenance equipment.
- Ability to read equipment manuals, system diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Strong computer skills and ability to learn and operate multiple facility management systems.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to respond quickly to operational issues.
- Ability to work independently while effectively leading and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
- Previous experience in a commercial cannabis greenhouse is considered a strong asset.
- Ability to communicate in both Spanish and Vietnamese is an asset and preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs as required.
- Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, and work around greenhouse equipment.
- Ability to work in warm and humid greenhouse conditions.
- Ability to safely operate and work around mechanical, electrical, irrigation, and environmental control equipment.
- Ability to wear all required PPE.
Working Conditions
- Primarily based within a commercial indoor cannabis greenhouse and production facility.
- Exposure to warm, humid, and changing environmental conditions.
- May involve working around water, fertilizers, cultivation inputs, electrical equipment, machinery, and maintenance tools.
- May be required to work weekends, holidays, early mornings, evenings, or participate in an on-call rotation based on production requirements.
- Occasional after-hours response may be required for critical greenhouse system failures.
Pay: $75,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
