Position Summary

The Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and coordinating field execution of electrical, instrumentation, and controls construction activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, quality requirements, and schedule objectives. This is a night shift position requiring close collaboration with construction, commissioning, engineering, quality, and contractor teams to support successful project delivery and system turnover.

Key Responsibilities

1. Field Coordination & Construction Oversight

Coordinate daily E&I construction activities with contractors to ensure alignment with schedule priorities and availability of work fronts.
Review and interpret IFC drawings, electrical one-line diagrams, cable schedules, loop diagrams, P&IDs, and installation details to support field execution.
Verify field installations against design documents and identify discrepancies, raising RFIs, clarifications, or scope concerns as required.
Coordinate access, materials, tools, and equipment to maintain efficient work execution.
Support readiness for critical activities including energization, loop checking, FAT/SAT participation, and subsystem turnover.

2. Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance

Ensure all electrical and instrumentation work complies with Alberta Electrical Code, CEC, CSA standards, ATEX/IECEx requirements, and project specifications.
Conduct field verification of key installation activities, including:
- Cable tray installation and grounding systems
- Conduit routing, junction boxes, and cable terminations
- Instrumentation tubing, impulse lines, and heat tracing
- MCCs, transformers, panels, and skid-based electrical/instrument connections
Work closely with the Quality team to close NCRs, punch list items, rework items, and documentation deficiencies.
Ensure all work is executed under proper permits and controls (CWP, FLHA, LOTO, hot work, confined space entry, etc.).

3. Interface Coordination

Manage coordination between multiple disciplines and stakeholders, including:
- Electrical and mechanical completion teams
- Instrumentation, controls, and automation groups
- Construction and commissioning teams
- Vendor representatives (e.g., VFDs, analyzers, instrumentation packages, skid suppliers)
Ensure systems are handed over to commissioning in a complete and ready-for-use condition (L1–L4 turnover requirements).

4. Documentation & Progress Reporting

Maintain redline markups and support accurate as-built documentation updates.
Track construction progress using measurable quantities (e.g., cable lengths, terminations, loops, panels, field devices).
Prepare daily and weekly reports covering manpower, progress status, constraints, and site issues.
Support compilation of turnover documentation, including:
- Test records and forms
- Cable megger and insulation resistance reports
- Loop check documentation
- Instrument calibration certificates
- Pre-energization and readiness checklists

5. Safety Leadership

Promote and enforce all project safety requirements and actively participate in toolbox talks and field safety inspections.
Support safe execution of energization activities, including LOTO procedures, arc flash safety, and isolation planning.
Report safety observations and ensure corrective actions are implemented and closed.

6. Change Management & Issue Resolution

Identify potential scope changes and support Project Controls in preparing change management documentation.
Provide timely technical support to resolve field issues and minimize delays.
Coordinate with Engineering to obtain clarifications, RFIs responses, and technical deviations in a timely manner.

Required Qualifications

Education & Certifications

Journeyperson Electrician, Instrumentation Technician, or equivalent technical diploma/degree.
Alberta Journeyperson certification (AIT) is considered an asset.
Valid safety certifications (e.g., CSO, Ground Disturbance, WHMIS, First Aid).
Working knowledge of LOTO procedures, arc flash hazard categories, and electrical safety practices.

Experience

5–10 years of experience in electrical and instrumentation construction within oil & gas, SAGD, heavy industrial, or energy infrastructure projects.
Experience with well pads, CPF brownfield tie-ins, OSBL facilities, or modular construction is preferred.
Familiarity with EPC/EPCM project execution environments.

Core Competencies

Strong understanding of electrical and instrumentation codes, standards, and best practices.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation accurately.
Strong coordination, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Effective problem-solving ability in fast-paced field environments.
Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
High attention to detail, particularly in quality control and turnover documentation.
