About the Role
Chai Social is seeking a precision-focused, dedicated Line Cook who takes pride in culinary excellence and operational consistency. This role is for a professional who understands that the kitchen is the heart of the business—where every recipe executed perfectly, every order prepared with care, and every shift closed with pride directly impact our reputation and customer loyalty. You'll operate in a fast-paced environment where consistency, quality, and adaptability are non-negotiable.
What Sets This Role Apart
This isn't about speed at the expense of quality or taking shortcuts to save time. We need someone who delivers both. You'll master our recipes and execute them with precision every single time, building a reputation where customers trust the consistency of their meal. You'll thrive under pressure, think creatively about time management during rushes, and take ownership of the kitchen—from prep to service to closing.
Core Responsibilities
- Recipe Mastery & Precision: Master all recipes and execute them to exact specifications every single time; understand that consistency is a commitment to our customers and a reflection of our brand
- Quality Over Shortcuts: Refuse to compromise on quality regardless of time pressure; use proper techniques, fresh ingredients, and correct proportions; never sacrifice standards for speed
- Pressure Management & Performance: Thrive in high-volume, fast-paced service; maintain focus, accuracy, and composure during rush hours; deliver consistent results even when orders queue up
- Strategic Prep & Time Management: Complete all prep work thoroughly and on time; when prep finishes before rush service, demonstrate initiative and creative thinking to fill gaps—organize stations, prep additional items, assist teammates, or address quality-improvement opportunities
- On-Time Order Delivery: Manage order timing expertly so plates leave the kitchen hot, fresh, and immediately; coordinate with front-of-house to minimize wait times without compromising quality
- Kitchen Organization & Cleanliness: Maintain an immaculate, organized cooking station and shared kitchen spaces at all times; follow food safety standards rigorously; keep prep areas, equipment, and work surfaces spotless
- Ownership Mentality: Take pride in leaving the kitchen better than you found it; ensure all closing duties are completed thoroughly; check equipment, organize storage, sanitize surfaces, and report maintenance issues
- Inventory & Waste Management: Monitor ingredient quality and quantities; use proper portioning to minimize waste; alert management to supply needs proactively
- Team Collaboration: Communicate clearly with team members and front-of-house staff; coordinate timing for complex orders; support teammates during rushes and maintain a positive, professional environment
- Problem-Solving & Adaptability: Think creatively to overcome challenges—managing unexpected demand spikes, ingredient shortages, or equipment issues; find solutions that maintain both speed and quality
The Ideal Candidate
You're a line cook or kitchen professional with a specific mindset and skill set:
- Recipe Perfectionist: You view recipes as blueprints, not suggestions; you measure, taste, and adjust—but always to the standard, never below it
- Pressure Performer: You get sharper under pressure, not frantic; you manage stress with focus and deliver consistent results in high-volume service
- Proactive Problem-Solver: You don't wait for instructions when prep finishes early; you identify gaps, anticipate needs, and fill dead time productively—whether that's additional prep, deep cleaning, or preventing bottlenecks
- Time Management Master: You understand the rhythm of service; you manage multiple orders simultaneously without sacrificing presentation or quality; you communicate timing to keep the flow smooth
- Quality-Driven: You refuse shortcuts, period. You'd rather speak up about a problem than serve a substandard plate. You take pride in every dish that leaves your station
- Kitchen Owner: You act like the kitchen is yours; you care about cleanliness, organization, and leaving your shift better than you started. You notice details others miss and address them
- Team Player: You communicate clearly, support teammates, and understand that the kitchen succeeds together, not individually
- Creative Thinker: You find innovative ways to manage time gaps, handle unexpected challenges, and optimize workflow without cutting corners
Required Experience & Skills
- Proven line cook or kitchen preparation experience in a fast-paced, quality-focused environment
- Demonstrated ability to execute recipes consistently and precisely, maintaining the same quality across high-volume service
- Strong food safety and sanitation knowledge with meticulous attention to cleanliness
- Ability to manage multiple orders while maintaining quality; excellent time management under pressure
- Proficiency with kitchen equipment and tools; comfort with prep work, plating, and presentation
- Understanding of portion control, inventory management, and waste minimization
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including peak service times and weekends
Nice-to-Have
- Experience in café, beverage preparation, or specialty food environments
- Knowledge of flavor profiles, ingredient sourcing, and food pairing
