Full job description

The opportunity

Leduc County is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Heavy Equipment Operator - Term to join our Nisku team. Reporting to the Foreman - East, this exciting opportunity operates single and tandem axle trucks, graders, front-end loaders, and other medium and heavy weight construction equipment to support the maintenance of county roads and municipal infrastructure. The Heavy Equipment Operator is a key contributor to the achievement of the department’s operational deliverables.

What you will do

Operates heavy equipment such as tandem trucks with snowplow and wing attachments, graders, excavators, and front-end loaders, performing various road maintenance functions in the summer and snow and ice removal in the winter months.
- Services and performs minor maintenance on assigned equipment.
- Logs hours and complies with the Traffic Safety Act.
- Performs various labourer duties as required.
Hauls and unloads various types of materials, gravel, earth, asphalt, water, and road equipment in designated areas for maintenance and construction as required.
Adheres to guidelines as set out in Leduc County’s policies and administrative directives.
Accountable for working in compliance with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code and participation in the Health, Safety and Wellness Program.
Performs related duties as required.

What you need to succeed

Must-have

A high school diploma.

Valid Class 3 Alberta Driver’s License.

Three years of trucking experience or tandem axle plow/sand truck or other heavy equipment operation.

Nice to have

Class 1 Alberta Driver’s License.

We offer a competitive annual salary of between $31.61 and $39.50.

The one-year opportunity is temporary (6-month term), full-time and is 40 hours per week scheduled Monday to Friday, with some extended hours to meet operational requirements. The office is located at 101-1101 5 St. Nisku, AB.
