Reports To: QA Supervisor
Shift: AM (7:00 am - 3:00 pm).
Overview:The Junior Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for procuring product samples for evaluation. Duties also involve the inspection of raw materials, ingredients, and products at various stages of manufacturing including receiving, processing, and packaging to maintain compliance with established quality standards.
Key Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):
· Sample and inspect all incoming raw material (packaging material & ingredients) when received for QA evaluation as per established procedure.
· Maintain retention samples of incoming commodities and finished products.
· Send raw material samples to the Lab for testing as required.
· Complete, maintain, and report accurate test results & update Micro Testing Logs.
· Withhold product that does not meet minimum quality or safety standards.
· Notify the QA supervisor and/or QA manager about any food safety or quality issues related to raw materials.
· Assist the QA supervisor and/or QA Commodity Specialist in maintaining all the updated supplier documents and creating Supplier SIRs.
· Adhere to and enforce all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and notify management of all infractions promptly.
· Assist with plant GMP and sanitation audits and participate in quality planning and improvement activities.
· Assist QA technicians in ensuring proper code dating, identification, package seal, gas flushing, and weight allowance for all products packaged at Trophy Foods if required.
· Act as a backup to the QA Technician to maintain plant manufacture procedures, including roasting, candying, chocolate panning, packaging, etc., and alert the processing and packaging Lead Hands of product quality or process problems during production.
· Keep a safe, clean, and orderly work area and maintain lab equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures.
· Adhere to company health and safety policies/procedures including the use of all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
· Other duties as assigned by the Quality Assurance Manager and QA Supervisor.
Experience, Qualifications, and Educational Requirements:
· Diploma/Certificate in food science or related field.
· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating & maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
· Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
· Six months or more experience in Quality Assurance is preferred.
· Intermediate skills required for Word and Excel.
· GMP & HACCP training.
Physical Effort:
· Regular walking through the Plant and Office areas.
· Extended periods of time often exceeding 1-2 hours without sitting.
· May be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment:
· Regularly exposed to allergens such as peanuts, tree nuts, sulfites, soy, dairy, egg, mustard, gluten, and sesame.
· Exposed to wet and/or humid conditions including slippery floors.
· May be exposed to equipment and processing mediums exceeding several hundred degrees Fahrenheit and noise levels exceeding 85 decibels.
· The employee may be required to handle chemicals that require PPEs to be worn including a respiratory PPE.
Sensory Attention:
· Frequent need to give concentrated attention, with one or two senses used in coordination.
· Ability to apply common sense to problems involving mathematical skills such as adding, subtracting, multiplication, and dividing and written or oral instructions.
Mental Stress:
· Work and environment are not repetitious/unchanging.
· There is noticeable pressure from deadlines, production quotas, accuracy or similar demands.
